Weber tallies four points

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (March 31, 2012) – Junior midfielder Courtney Weber (Centerport, N.Y.) finished with four points on two goals and two assists on Saturday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team was defeated, 24-7, by No. 2 nationally ranked Adelphi in Northeast-10 Conference play at Motamed Field. Senior attacker Erica Devito led Adelphi with eight points on four goals and four assists.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 4-3 (2-1 Northeast-10), while Adelphi improves to 7-1 (4-1 Northeast-10).

Adelphi wasted no time taking control of the game, opening up a 10-goal lead just 6:25 into the contest, on its way to scoring 16 of the contest's first 17 goals over the opening 20:33. Devito struck for the first three of her goals, pushing her team-leading total to 29, and added two assists to rack up five points on the 16-1 run, while freshman midfielder Danielle Jaycox and senior midfielder Marissa Mills each chipped in three goals and an assist.

Behind Weber for Franklin Pierce on the afternoon, junior midfielder Lindsey Leach (Hamden, Conn.) and senior attacker Brianna Nash (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored two goals each, while freshman attacker Geena Franciosi (South Easton, Mass.) also tallied two points on a goal and an assist. Defensively, Weber collected three ground balls and caused three turnovers to lead the team in both categories.

After Devito for Adelphi, Jaycox tallied seven points on five goals and two assists off the bench, while Mills finished with five points on four goals and an assist. Junior attacker Sara Sangiorgio added four goals for the Panthers. On the other side of the ball, senior defender Courtney Acker scooped up three ground balls and caused three turnovers to lead the team in both categories.

Senior goalkeeper Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H.) made five saves against 29 shots on her goal and took the loss (4-2) in net for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore Jordan Dempsey made two saves against seven on-target shots over the first 50:15 to pick up the win (7-1) between the pipes for Adelphi.

Adelphi held a 38-16 advantage in shot attempts, a 12-10 edge in ground balls and a 27-5 advantage in draw controls in the game. Franklin Pierce was successful on 10 of its 14 clear attempts (71.4%) and went 2-for-6 on free-position shots (33.3%). Adelphi went 11-12 on clear attempts (91.7%) and 2-for-3 on free-position opportunities (66.7%).

The Ravens returns to the field on Monday, April 2, when they return home to host Southern Connecticut State in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
