Stille, Weber add five points each

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 21, 2012) – Junior attacker Ashley Lamagdeleine (Westfield, Mass.) scored five times on Wednesday afternoon to push her team-leading season total to 14 through three games and lead the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team to a 14-10 victory over Erskine in non-conference, neutral-site play at Richard L. Evans Field on the campus of Lake Howell High School. Alesia Jerrells led Erskine with six points on five goals and an assist in defeat.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-1 (0-0 Northeast-10), while Erskine falls to 2-7 (1-2 Carolinas). The game was the first ever meeting between the two schools in women's lacrosse.

With the Ravens out in front early, 3-2, junior midfielder Courtney Weber (Centerport, N.Y.) took a yellow card for a check to the head with 16:08 to play in the first half. Undaunted, the Franklin Pierce offense struck three times in a span of 40 seconds, despite being down a player, to surge to a 6-2 lead. Lamagdeleine tallied two goals just 19 seconds apart, as she was sprung one-on-one with the goalkeeper twice. The spurt was part of a 5-0 run for the Ravens that featured three goals from Lamagdeleine and a goal and an assist from freshman midfielder Madeline Shopshire (Hyannis, Mass.) and left the team with an 8-2 lead with 9:10 remaining until halftime.

Franklin Pierce also had the ball on the final possession of the first half, when senior midfielder Mary Kate Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) put away a feed from Weber just before the horn sounded to stake the Ravens to a 10-3 lead heading into the intermission.

Erskine scored six of the first seven goals in the second half, including two goals and an assist from Jerrells, to pull within two at 11-9 with 6:36 to play before the Ravens put the game away. Weber and Lamagdeleine converted free-position shots 1:46 apart to increase the margin to four, and Lamagdeleine added an insurance marker just 35 seconds after her free-position tally as the Ravens went on to the 14-10 victory.

Three different Ravens finished the game with five points, as Stille and Weber each added three goals and two assists in addition to Lamagdeleine's five goals. The three were the only Ravens to score more than once on the day. Defensively, Weber picked up three ground balls and tied for the team lead with three caused turnovers, while senior defender Kim Jaksina (Townsend, Mass.) also caused three turnovers and collected a team-best five ground balls.

After Jerrells for Erskine, no other member of the Flying Fleet collected more than three points. Samantha Burns (2-1-3) and Von McKenzie (2-0-2) were the only other multiple-point scorers for Erskine. On the other side of the ball, goalkeeper Kaitlyn Overley led Erskine with five ground balls, while Jerrells picked up four.

Senior goalkeeper Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H.) made 14 saves, including nine in the first half, against the 24 shots on her goal to pick up the win (2-0) between the pipes for Franklin Pierce. Overley made two saves against 16 shots on goal and took the loss for Erskine.

Erskine held a 28-20 edge in shot attempts and a 21-17 advantage in ground balls, while Franklin Pierce held the edge in draw controls, 13-12. Franklin Pierce was successful on 11 of its 18 clear attempts (61.1%) and went 3-for-4 on free-position shots (75%). Erskine went 8-for-12 on clear attempts (66.7%) and 1-for-8 on free-position opportunities (12.5%).

The Ravens returns to the field on Saturday, March 24, when they return home for their home opener, a Northeast-10 Conference contest against American International. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
