Ravens travel to Merrimack on Tuesday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (April 23, 2011) – Junior midfielder Brittany Brigandi led all players with seven points on six goals and an assist on Saturday afternoon to lead No. 2 nationally ranked Le Moyne to a 20-2 win over the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Athletic Turf Complex. Senior attacker Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass.) and junior midfielder Mary Kate Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) scored in the loss for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 6-8 (3-7 Northeast-10), while Le Moyne improves to 14-1 (9-1 Northeast-10).

The Ravens scored both of their goals in the first half to hang with Le Moyne through the game's first 14 minutes. After Le Moyne opened with the first four goals of the game, including two from Brigandi, Stille struck on a free-position shot at the 5:49 mark to cut the lead to 4-1. After another pair of goals by the Dolphins, Baillargeon put home her 28th goal of the season, also on a free-position shot, to make it a 6-2 game. However, it would be all Le Moyne from there, as the Dolphins ran off eight more goals before halftime and scored the only six goals of the second half to create the 20-2 final.

With both Franklin Pierce goals coming on free-position chances, Baillargeon and Stille were the only players to pick up points for the Ravens. Stille and sophomore midfielder Lindsey Leach (Hamden, Conn.) each picked up two ground balls for Franklin Pierce.

Behind Brigandi and her seven points, Le Moyne featured a balanced attack, as senior midfielder Mia Valletta was the only other player to collect more than two points. She finished with three goals and an assist, while senior midfielder Rebekah Elmer was the only other multiple-goal scorer, as she found the net twice. Senior defender Kaitlin Walker and sophomore midfielder Gabrielle Kamide collected four ground balls each for Le Moyne, while four different players caused two turnovers.

Junior goalkeeper Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H.) made seven saves and took the loss (6-8) in front of the Franklin Pierce net, while junior Kelly Fucillo stopped six shots to pick up the win (14-1) for Le Moyne.

Le Moyne posted a 36-11 advantage in shots and held a 19-8 edge in ground balls in the game. Franklin Pierce was successful on six of its 13 (46.2%) clear attempts and finished 2-for-4 on free-position shots. Le Moyne went 14-for-17 (82.4%) on clear attempts and 6-for-10 on free-position shots.

The Ravens return to the field on Tuesday, April 26, when they travel to Merrimack for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Warrior Field in North Andover, Mass. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Senior Day, Saturday, April 30, against Assumption at 3 p.m.
