Ravens back in action Saturday at SCSU

Ravens Lacrosse The Ravens return to action on Saturday afternoon at Southern Connecticut State.

EASTON, Mass. (April 6, 2011) – Sophomore attacker Kelsey Reilly scored six goals and added an assist to finish with seven points on Wednesday afternoon to lead No. 5 nationally ranked Stonehill to a 22-2 win over the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team in Northeast-10 Conference play at W.B. Mason Stadium. Sophomore midfielder Ashley Lamagdeleine (Westfield, Mass.) and freshman attacker Julie Hemphill (Clarkston, Mich.) scored in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 5-4 (2-3 Northeast-10), while Stonehill improves to 10-0 (7-0 Northeast-10).

Stonehill wasted no time taking control of the game, as the Skyhawks scored the first eight goals of the contest over the opening 12:23. Junior attacker Sam Lynott scored twice and added an assist in that opening run, while both Reilly and fellow sophomore attacker Kayla Green added a goal and an assist each.

Hemphill scored the lone Franklin Pierce goal of the first half off an assist from sophomore midfielder Courtney Weber (Centerport, N.Y.) with 16:28 remaining before the intermission. Stonehill then ran off the next 14 goals of the game, including Reilly's five remaining tallies. Lamagdeleine got the Ravens back on the board with 10 seconds remaining in the second half, as she put home a feed from sophomore attacker Melissa Richtel (Castle Rock, Colo.).

Hemphill, Lamagdeleine, Richtel and Weber were the only Franklin Pierce players to record points on the day, and all four did so coming into the game as reserves. Junior midfielders Christine McKay (Norwood, Mass.) and Mary Kate Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) led the defensive efforts for the Ravens, as each collected three ground balls, while Stille controlled four draws as well. Stille and junior defender Kim Jaksina (Townsend, Mass.) caused three turnovers each.

Behind Reilly for Stonehill, both Lynott and junior attacker Kaitlyn Wood collected two goals and two assists for four points, while freshman midfielder Kelsey Shannahan contributed three goals for a hat trick. Shannahan and junior midfielder Sarah Galligan each picked up four ground balls for the Skyhawks, while Shannahan led all players with five caused turnovers.

Junior goalkeeper Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H.) made six saves and took the loss (5-4) in front of the Franklin Pierce net. Sophomore Rebecca Moore stopped nine of the 11 shots on her cage to pick up the win (10-0) for Stonehill.

Stonehill posted a 36-14 advantage in shots and held a 23-19 edge in ground balls in the game. Franklin Pierce was successful on 10 of 16 (62.5%) clear attempts and finished 0-for-8 on free-position shots. Stonehill went 13-for-15 (86.7%) on clear attempts and 6-for-11 on free-position shots.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, April 9, when they travel to Southern Connecticut State for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn.
