RINDGE, N.H. (April 4, 2011) – Junior attacker Sarah Magnone led all players with six points on a game-best five goals and one assist on Monday afternoon to lead New Haven to a 17-7 win over the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Sophomore midfielder Ashley Lamagdeleine (Westfield, Mass.) scored a pair of goals in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 5-3 (2-2 Northeast-10), while New Haven improves to 5-4 (3-2 Northeast-10).

New Haven took control of the game early and never looked back, as the Chargers scored the first six goals of the game in 10:50 and 11 of the first 13 over the opening 18:15 on their way to a 13-4 halftime lead. Magnone started things with the first two goals of the game, while sophomore attacker Natalie Lieberman added two of her own in the opening six-goal run. Later in the first half, senior midfielder Ashley Ferrandiz potted three consecutive goals to cap the 10-2 surge out of the gate for New Haven.

Franklin Pierce did not collect back-to-back goals until the final 10 minutes of the first half, when freshman attacker Emily Bamberger (Brimfield, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Courtney Weber (Centerport, N.Y.) scored consecutively to cut the lead to 11-4. However, Magnone picked up two more goals before the break to create that 13-4 halftime gap.

The second half was more balanced, as the Chargers edged Franklin Pierce 4-3 in the period. Along the way, Magnone capped her day with her fifth goal of the contest to push her season total to 23. In the final five minutes, Lamagdeleine scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season for Franklin Pierce to close the final margin to 17-7.

Other than Lamagdeleine, junior midfielder Mary Kate Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) was the only other Raven with multiple points, as she picked up two on a goal and an assist. Defensively, junior defender Kim Jaksina (East Townsend, Mass.) scooped up four ground balls for the Ravens and, along with senior midfielder Jill Benn (North Quincy, Mass.) and junior midfielder Christine McKay (Norwood, Mass.), tied for the team lead with two caused turnovers. Stille corralled four draw controls for Franklin Pierce.

Behind Magnone and her six-point effort for New Haven, Lieberman (2-2-4), junior attacker Alexis Gabbe (3-1-4) and Ferrandiz (3-1-4) all finished with four points apiece to help lead the Chargers on the afternoon. Junior goalkeeper Maureen Spellman led the defensive efforts by recording six ground balls, while Ferrandiz forced three turnovers and Lieberman controlled seven draws.

Junior goalkeeper Jill Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H.) made six saves in front of the Franklin Pierce net and took the loss (5-3), while Spellman stopped nine shots and picked up the win (5-4) between the pipes for New Haven.
