Women's Lacrosse Puts Together Historic 2010 Season as the Squad Contended for a Playoff Spot

Ravens set single-season program records in four major offensive categories (goals, assists, points and shots on goal) for the second-straight season

 

RINDGE, N.H. (June 24, 2010) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team entered the final week of the 2010 regular season still fighting for a spot in the Northeast-10 Conference playoffs. Despite coming up just short in its bid for a playoff spot, Franklin Pierce still put together a historic season in Rindge as the Ravens continue to build towards the future in women’s lacrosse. In fact, 16 of the team’s 17 players in 2010 are expected to return for the 2011 campaign.

On the team front, the Ravens set single-season program records in the four major offensive categories, including goals (225), assists (89), points (314) and shots on goal (390). It marked the second-straight season Franklin Pierce set new standards in the four offensive categories. Defensively, the Ravens allowed fewer goals in 2010 (228) than in 2009 (249).

A pair of Ravens had tremendous individual seasons, including junior attackers Lauren Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) and Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass.). Stille scored a team-high tying 37 goals and assisted on 15 others for 52 points, and in the process, became the program’s career leader in goals (174) and points (216). Baillargeon earned Second-Team Northeast-10 All-Conference honors this season after she led the team in points with 62 (37 goals, 25 assists). She also led the conference in draw controls. Baillargeon’s 25 assists this season gave her 48 for her career, which is the most in program history.

Several other Ravens made their marks in the career record book. Junior midfielder Ashley Moirano (Vero Beach, Fla.) totaled nine assists this season to move into third place all-time in school history for career helpers with 27. She also moved into eighth in program history for career points with 66. Sophomore midfielder Brianna Nash (Oceanside, N.Y.) totaled 25 goals and four assists for 29 points on the year and moved into seventh in school history in career goals (46) and 10th in career points (57). Sophomore attacker Mary Kate Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) had 28 goals on the season to move into 10th place in program history with 57 career goals in just two seasons.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H.) had a solid 2010 season as her 193 saves ranked as the sixth highest in a single season in program history. Bolduc also moved into the top-three in program history in three career categories, including games played (3rd, 31), minutes (3rd, 1883) and goals against average (2nd, 15.39).

The Ravens (6-9, 4-7 NE-10) opened the season with an impressive 19-12 win over Saint Michael’s in Winter Park, Fla. on March 15. Franklin Pierce concluded the campaign by winning three of its final five games to put itself into position to contend for a playoff spot. The Ravens scored at least 16 goals in all six of their wins this season.
