Women's Lacrosse Topples Southern Connecticut 23-9 to Pick Up First NE-10 Win this Season

Jordan Baillargeon logs six goals on a nine-point afternoon

BOXSCORE

RINDGE, N.H. (April 3, 2010) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team picked up its first Northeast-10 Conference win of the 2010 season on Saturday with a convincing 23-9 victory over Southern Connecticut State at Sodexo Field in Rindge.  The Ravens improved to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the NE-10, while SCSU dipped to 0-6 and 0-4 in league play.

Franklin Pierce had defeated Saint Michael’s (19-12) and Assumption (20-12) earlier this season, but those games came in non-conference affairs. The Ravens will meet both of those teams later this season in an NE-10 match-up. In fact, Franklin Pierce will close out its three-game homestand on Tuesday night by playing host to Saint Michael’s at 6 p.m. in Sodexo Field.

Junior attack Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass.) had a sensational afternoon for the Ravens as she logged a game-high nine points on six goals and three assists. Fellow attacker Lauren Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) followed with five points on four goals and an assist.

Brianna Nash (Oceanside, N.Y.), Courtney Weber (Centerport, N.Y.) and Ashley Moirano (Vero Beach, Fla.) each recorded three points on the afternoon. Nash had three goals, while Weber threw in two with an assist. Moirano scored one and assisted on two other tallies. Christine McKay (Norwood, Mass.), Melissa Richtel (Castle Rock, Colo.) and Ashley Lamagdeleine (Westfield, Mass.) each tallied two goals on the day as well.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H.) made 10 saves in goal to earn the win to run her record to 3-4 on the season.

KellyAnne McCafferty led Southern Connecticut’s offensive attack with three goals.

Franklin Pierce wasted little time putting this game away early as the Ravens scored three goals in the opening five minutes to take a 3-0 lead. McKay, Baillargeon and Stille each notched a score during the run.

The Ravens held a 5-0 lead before the Owls got on the board with a goal at the 21:20 mark by McCafferty. However, Franklin Pierce answered with two tallies to make it 7-1. Baillargeon answered McCafferty’s tally with one of her own just 12 seconds later and Stille added one just 90 seconds after Baillargeon’s.

McCafferty scored her third goal of the game with just 38 seconds remaining in the first half to pull Southern Connecticut to within 14-6. Again, Baillargeon had a quick response and threw in another goal with just :01 left on the clock to lift the Ravens to a 15-6 lead at halftime.

Franklin Pierce raced out of the gates in the opening stages of the second half and scored four-consecutive goals to open up a commanding 19-6 advantage. Nash had three scores during the opening surge, which Richtel added one as well.

The Ravens would not look back the rest of the way as they cruised onto victory. Franklin Pierce outshot SCSU by a count of 50-28, while also forcing the Owls into 31 turnovers. The Ravens collected 50 groundballs, including 11 from McKay.
