Stille, Baillargeon Lead Women’s Lacrosse Past Assumption, 20-12

Lauren Stille pots six goals; Baillargeon adds three goals, three assists

Lauren Stille Lauren Stille scored six goals and added three assists on Tuesday evening in the win over Assumption.

RINDGE, N.H. (March 23, 2010) – Junior attack Lauren Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) led all players with nine points on six goals and three assists on Tuesday evening to lead the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team to a 20-12 victory over Assumption in non-conference play at Sodexo Field. Junior attack Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass.) added six points with three goals and three assists, while sophomore Elaine Bowman led Assumption with five goals.

Franklin Pierce scored early and often on its way to a 4-0 run over the opening seven minutes of the game. Lauren Stille scored once and had two assists on the opening four goals, while her sister, sophomore attack Mary Kate Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) added a goal of her own. Freshman midfielder Courtney Webber (Sharon, Mass.) netted the first goal of the game, her first of two on the night, while Baillargeon picked up one as well.

After a goal by Bowman 7:12 into the contest, Franklin Pierce ran off five more goals in a row to jump to a 9-1 lead with 10:54 to play in the first half. Mary Kate Stille cashed in again on the stretch, while Baillargeon collected a pair of assists. Webber scored her second goal of the game and added an assist, and Lauren Stille added another assist for her fourth point of the night.

Assumption would score three of the next four goals, including a pair of unassisted tallies by junior midfielder Erin Theriault, to briefly cut the lead to six at 10-4. However, the Ravens would close the half with four consecutive goals over five minutes, including an unassisted pair from Lauren Stille and a goal and an assist from sophomore Christine McKay (Norwood, Mass.), to take a 14-4 lead into the halftime break.

In the first half, Franklin Pierce held a 25-18 advantage in shots, as well as a 21-15 edge in ground balls.

Franklin Pierce picked up right where it left off at the start of the second half, as junior attack Ashley Moirano (Vero Beach, Fla.), Lauren Stille and Baillargeon popped home goals in the opening seven minutes to push the lead to 17-4 and effectively put the game out of reach. Assumption would close the gap at the end, by scoring five of the final six goals over a span of 10:43, but the Ravens would coast to the eight-goal victory.

In all, Lauren Stille chalked up three goals in the second half, while Baillargeon chipped in a goal and an assist. Bowman led the way for Assumption in the second stanza, as she scored four of her five goals in the latter half.

Franklin Pierce finished the game with a 38-32 edge in shots and a 32-28 advantage in ground balls.

In net, sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H.) made 13 saves to pick up the win for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore Julie Verbic made 11 saves for Assumption in a losing effort.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, March 27, when they travel to Adelphi for a Northeast-10 contest at 1 p.m. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on March 30 against Keene State at 6 p.m.
