Women's Lacrosse Opens Northeast-10 Play with Tough 13-7 Setback to New Haven
Mary Kate Stille, Christine McKay and Brianna Nash score a pair of goals each to spark the Ravens' offensive attack
WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 17, 2010) -- The Franklin Pierce
University women's lacrosse team opened Northeast-10 Conference
play on Wednesday with a tough 13-7 setback versus New Haven at
Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. The Ravens fell to 1-1 overall
and 0-1 in NE-10 play, while UNH improved to 2-0 and 1-0 in the
league.
A trio of Ravens scored a pair of goals each, including
Mary Kate Stille (North Quincy, Mass.),
Christine McKay (Norwood, Mass.) and
Brianna Nash (Oceanside, N.Y.). Mary Kate Stille
added an assist for a three-point afternoon.
Ashley Ferrandiz tallied seven goals to pace the offensive attack
for the Chargers.
McKay and Nash staked Franklin Pierce to a 2-0 lead a little more
than four minutes into the contest. However, New Haven got three
tallies in a four-minute span to grab a 3-2 edge.
Franklin Pierce was then able to force New Haven into taking a
couple of penalties, which allowed Mary Kate Stille and McKay to
score a man-up goal each to give the Ravens a 4-3 lead. Franklin
Pierce pushed its lead out to 6-3 with 9:02 left in the half after
Nash and Lauren Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) got a
goal each.
Ferrandiz, though, went to work for the Chargers and scored
four-consecutive goals to spark a 6-0 run by UNH to close out the
half and take a 9-6 advantage heading into halftime.
UNH continued its strong offensive play in the opening stages of
the second half and scored four more goals to claim a 13-6 lead.
Mary Kate Stille rounded out the scoring in the contest as she
notched her second goal of the game for Franklin Pierce with :33
remaining.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson,
N.H.) made 14 saves in net for Franklin Pierce as she had
a strong game despite the loss. Maureen Spellman made nine saves in
goal to earn the win for New Haven.
Franklin Pierce returns to action Thursday when it takes on
Pfeiffer at 4 p.m. in Winter Park, Fla.
