Franklin Pierce Holds Back Southern Connecticut, 11-8

Sophomore Jordan Baillargeon totaled five goals and an assist for six points to lead the Ravens to their program-record sixth win of the season. She enters Tuesday's game at AIC just three shy of 100 career points.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 18, 2009) - Franklin Pierce University continued its playoff push with an 11-8 victory over Southern Connecticut State University at Jess Dow Field this afternoon.

Franklin Pierce are winners of three-straight for the first time in program history and have set a new single-season record by winning its sixth game of the spring. The Ravens have moved into a three-way tie with Saint Michael's College and Saint Anselm College for the sixth and final spot in the upcoming Northeast-10 Tournament. The Ravens seek their second postseason berth in program history - their first since 2003 when they won a then record five games.

Sophomores Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) and Lauren Stille (North Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) combined for nine goals to lead the way for Franklin Pierce. Baillargeon posted five goals and an assist for six points, while Stille netted four goals. Sophomore Ashley Moirano (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and freshman Brianna Nash (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) each added a goal and two assists for the Ravens.

Baillargeon's assist was her 13th of the season, moving within one of Stille's single-season record set last year. Baillargeon is also just three points shy of becoming the fifth player (third this season) to reach the 100 career point mark.


Sophomore Lauren Stille added four goals for the Ravens who are winners of three straight for the first time in program history.

Junior Teresa Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) led Southern Connecticut State with four goals, while classmate Marissa Ryan (Waterbury, Conn./Sacred Heart) chipped in a goal and assist.

Freshman Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane) made ten saves in goal to preserve the win for Franklin Pierce. Junior Lisa Corso (North Bellmore, N.Y./Wellington C. Mepham) made 17 stops in goal for Southern Connecticut, including 12 in the second half to keep the Owls in the game.

Franklin Pierce scored the first four goals, two by Baillargeon, in the opening eight minutes of the contest. Southern scored four of the next five markers over the following 20 minutes to close within one (5-4) after a goal from junior KellyAnn McCafferty (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) with 7:17 left in the half. 

Franklin Pierce answered by scoring the last two goals of the half, by Stille and Moirano, to start a 5-0 run to regain control. Stille scored two of the three goals to start the second half, while Baillargeon added a goal and assist, as the Ravens built a 10-4 lead with 16:05 to play. Southern wouldn't go away though, pulling within three (10-7) after three-straight goals in a four-minute span from Monfredo with 4:30 remaining. Baillargeon scored her fifth goal with 2:52 on the clock to put the Ravens back up four before Ryan closed out the scoring with 1:01 left.

Franklin Pierce (6-7, 3-5 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when it visits American International College at 4 p.m. Southern Connecticut State (1-11, 1-7 NE-10) travels to cross-town rivals University of New Haven on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
