EASTON, Mass. (March 29, 2008) – Stonehill College, ranked third in this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, earned a 21-2 victory over Franklin Pierce University in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s lacrosse matchup on Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium.

Stonehill junior Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) led all scorers with four goals and three assists for seven points, including three consecutive goals early in the second half. Senior Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) also scored four times and added an assist for five points, while sophomore Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) had a goal and three assists for the Skyhawks.

Franklin Pierce received goals from senior captain Celine Stamets (Sausalito, Calif./Mavin Catholic) and junior captain Carla Savini (Danvers, Mass./Danvers), while sophomore Meghan Masterson (Sharon, Mass./Sharon) added an assist for the Ravens.

Stonehill dominated play in the first 30 minutes of action, out-scoring Franklin Pierce, 14-0, in the first half. Darrell began the scoring 1:31 into the first half, and scored four of the first six goals of the afternoon to give Stonehill an early edge.

Savini began the second half with her ninth goal of the season 1:47 into the frame, with the assist going to Masterson. Kelly then scored three goals and assisted on a fourth to give the Skyhawks an 18-1 lead midway through the half before Stamets tallied her first of the year with 10:21 remaining in the game for the Ravens’ second goal.

Senior Amanda McGeachey (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) started the game in net for Stonehill, making two saves on two shots in the first 35 minutes of action to earn the win. Justine Ferland (Portsmouth, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) came on in relief and allowed two goals on three shots over the final 25 minutes. For Franklin Pierce, freshman goaltender Chaniece Franklyn (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) made 13 saves on 34 shots.

Franklin Pierce (1-4, 0-3 NE-10) will try to begin a three-game homestand on Monday afternoon, when the Ravens host Saint Michael’s College at Sodexho Field in a Northeast-10 contest beginning at 4 p.m. Stonehill (4-1, 3-0 NE-10) completes a six-game homestand against Saint Thomas Aquinas College tomorrow at noon.
