Stille sets new Franklin Pierce single-season points record with three goals

Lauren Stille ran her season points total to 67, a new program record, with three goals on Saturday against C.W. Post.

RINDGE, N.H. (April 19, 2008) – Long Island University-C.W. Post, ranked first in the latest Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Div. II poll, used a 16-goal first half to defeat Franklin Pierce University, 22-3, in non-conference women’s lacrosse action on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Sodexho Field.

Junior Jaclyn Napoli (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) led the Pioneers with a game-high four goals and added an assist for five points, while senior Jenna Miller (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) netted three and assisted on a game-high five tallies for eight points. Junior Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) also contributed three goals and three assists for C.W. Post.

Freshman Lauren Stille (North Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) was the Ravens’ only offense on the afternoon, scoring three times. With her three goals, Stille passed Courtney Boardman ’05 to become the school’s single-season leader in points with 67 and also moved to within two goals of tying Boardman’s single-season goals mark of 58, set in 2005.

C.W. Post held possession for much of the game, taking 36 shots to eight for Franklin Pierce, and held a 16-0 lead at halftime. Napoli scored two quick goals 26 seconds apart to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead 1:48 into the match, and the visitors scored on eight of their first nine shots on goal to take a commanding 8-0 lead 5:42 into the first half before doubling the lead before the break.

Stille began the second half with a pair of goals in the opening five minutes of the period, and scored her record-breaking tally on a free-position shot with 16:32 remaining in the second half.

Freshman goaltender Chaniece Franklyn (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) was forced to make eight saves for Franklin Pierce, while senior Lauren Scipione (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) made four saves in the first 45:52 to earn the win for C.W. Post.

Franklin Pierce (2-11, 0-7 NE-10) returns to conference play on Tuesday at Bentley College at 7 p.m. before returning home for Senior Day against American International College on Thursday at 6 p.m. C.W. Post (13-0, 4-0 ECC) takes on Saint Michael’s College tomorrow at noon.
