Women's Ice Hockey: Comes Back and Earns Tie, 2-2.

WORCESTER, M.A (2/16/2024) -- In game one of the final weekend series of the regular season, the Franklin Pierce women's hockey team and Assumption played to a 2-2 tie tonight at the Worcester Ice Center.

Score: Franklin Pierce 2, Assumption 2

Records: Franklin Pierce (14-15-1, 13-13-1 NEWHA), Assumption (10-19-4, 10-13-4 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• In the first period, the Greyhounds scored the game's first goal. Freshman forward Alexa Hanrahan scored her 10th goal of the season. Despite Franklin Pierce outshooting Assumption 18-11 in the opening period, the Greyhounds held on to a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. 

• In the second period, Assumption took a 2-0 lead on a goal by freshman forward Ava McGaffigan. It was her seventh goal of the season. The Greyhounds outshot the Ravens 16-11

• Heading into the final period being down by two goals, the Ravens tried to crawl their way back. Senior forward Jenna Ruiz (Wester, Wis.) scored her first goal of the game less than four minutes in and tied the game with under four minutes to go. The Ravens outshot the Greyhounds 21-6. 

• The game went into overtime, and Franklin Pierce had three shots on net. The Ravens picked up their first tie of the season. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

• Sophomore goaltender Jill Hertl (Highland Park, III) made 36 saves on 38 shots. 

• Franklin Pierce was 0 for 5 on the power play. Assumption was 0 for 7 on the power play. 

• Franklin Pierce outshot Assumption 53-38. 

• Franklin Pierce won 45 faceoffs. 

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS:

• The weekend series concludes tomorrow between Franklin Pierce and Assumption at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Massachusetts, with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.

• After the game, Franklin Pierce will honor the seniors that will be graduating.
