Women's Ice Hockey: Kelley Pots Pair of Goals to Lift Ravens 2-1 Over Saint Anselm (OT)

Release by Colin Struckman

Winchendon, Mass. (2/3/24) – Some things never change. Death, taxes, and the Ravens defeating the Hawks in overtime on home ice. For the third consecutive season, the Ravens conquered their inter-state rival, with the game needing extra time in route to a 2-1 victory.

Score: Franklin Pierce 2, Saint Anselm 1 (OT)

Records: Franklin Pierce (14-13-0, 13-11-0 NEWHA), Saint Anselm (16-12-1, 16-7-1 NEWHA)

Location: Jason Ritchie Ice Arena: Winchendon, Mass.

Date: February 3rd, 2024

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens opened the scoring in the first period. Freshman forward Lauren Maras (Alexandria, Minn.) dropped a pass back to Junior forward Mikayla Kelley (Eagan, Minn.), who ripped a backhand shot, and she then corralled her own rebound and fired home a wrister to put the Ravens up 1-0. Senior forward Claire Casey (Superior, Wis.) also got credited with an assist.

  • The Hawks responded quickly in the second period, scoring the equalizer just 2:41 into the frame on the power play. Brinna Martin teed up a shot from the blue line that was deflected in front by Hailey Tullo, tying the game at 1-1.

  • The third period couldn't settle the game, so it headed to overtime. Mikayla Kelley weaved through the offensive zone and cut right toward the goal, burying a wrister in the top right corner for the 2-1 overtime win.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Sophomore netminder Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) turned aside 29-of-30 shots she faced.

  • The Hawks outshot the Ravens 30 to 24.

  • The Ravens won 39 faceoffs compared to the Hawks 25.
