Women's Ice Hockey: Ravens Take Game One from Conference Leader LIU, 4-3

East Meadow, New York. (01/14/2024) – The Franklin Pierce University Ravens women's ice hockey team grabbed a big win over Conference Leader LIU on Saturday night, in a high scoring 4-3 final.

Score: Franklin Pierce 4, Long Island University 3 
Records: Franklin Pierce (11-10-0, 10-8-0 NEWHA); Long Island University (14-8-0, 14-2-0 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Mckenzie Rich (Rochester, Minn.) connected with Maggie Korneta (Naperville, Ill. ) for her second goal of the season to open scoring at 4:27 of the 1st period. 1-0 (FPU)
  • LIU's Mikayla Lantto ties the game on the power play at 11:13 of the first period. 1-1
  • Korneta scores her second goal of the night, third of the year on the power play to take a 2-1 lead. 4:32 of the second
  • 72 seconds later Mikayla Lantto would tie the game again with her 13th goal of the season. 2-2
  • Jenna Hartung (Burnsville, Minn) answered back on the power play at 8:59 of the second period to take back the lead 3-2.
  • At the 16-minute mark, Mikayla Kelley (Eagan, Minn.), lit the lamp for the 10th time this season to take a 4-2 lead.
  • LIU would not go down quietly at 7:05 of the 3rd, Sarah Rourke scored LIU's third goal of the game. 4-3

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • Jill Herlt (Highland Park, Ill.) made 34 saves. Tindra Holm made 29 saves.
  • Franklin Pierce went 2 for 6 on the power play, LIU went 8-1. 
  • The Ravens blocked 15 shots to LIU's 10.
