Women's Ice Hockey: Ravens 2024 Home Opener Ends in 3-1 Victory Over Saint Michaels

Winchendon, Mass. (1/5/2024) -- After a thrilling 3-2 win on the road against Dartmouth two nights ago, the Ravens didn't skip a beat securing their second straight win versus Saint Michaels Friday night and their first home win of the new year.

Records: Franklin Pierce (9-10-0, 8-8-0 NEWHA); Saint Michaels (0-21-0, 0-15-0 NEWHA) 
Location: Winchendon, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Ravens scored the first goal late in the first period when Anna Caumo (Brunico, Italy) glided past Purple Knight goaltender Annika Lavender and finished it making it 1-0. 

  • The Ravens got the second goal less than a minute later when Jenna Ruiz (Webster, Wis.) got infront of the goal and with chaos in front of Lavender was able to notch the second goal making it 2-0.  

  • Scoring would be on pause until the third period when after blocking a shot, Caumo set up Memphis Mertens (Roseau, Minn.) on a beautiful slot pass with Mertens one-timer besting Lavender for the Ravens third goal of the game.  

  • The Purple Knights were able to get on the board after Emilie Prive (Morrisville, VT) got sent off with a five-minute major. Maddie Quinn on the power play was able to score it pass Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) making it 3-1.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • Jill Hertl made 21 saves on 22 shots. Annika Lavender made 33 saves on 36 shots.  

  • Franklin Pierce outshot Saint Michaels 36-22. 

  • The Ravens were 0 for 2 on the power play while the Purple Knights were 1-3. 

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: 

  • The Ravens face the Purple Knights again Saturday at 5 pm with a chance to win their third straight.
