Women's Ice Hockey: Ravens' Start Strong in Series Opener 6-1.

WINCHENDON, M.A (11/10/2023) -- In game one of the weekend series, the Franklin Pierce women's hockey team captured their first win at home this season as they defeated Post University, 6-0.

Records: Franklin Pierce (3-6-0, 3-4-0 NEWHA), Post (3-10-0, 3-5-0 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Franklin Pierce graduate transfer forward Jenna Hartung (Burnsville, MN) scored the game's first goal on the power play less than two minutes into the opening period. The initial shot was saved by senior goaltender Grace Glasrud, and Hartung was there on the doorstep to score her second goal of the season and second on the power play.

• Less than a minute to go in the first period, junior forward Mikayla Kelly (Eagan, MN) scored her third goal of the season to make it 2-0 Franklin Pierce.

• The Ravens added two more goals in the second period as they were scored 45 seconds apart. Senior forward Emilie Prive (Morrisville, Vermont) scored her first goal of the season and senior forward Jenna Ruiz (Webster, Wisconsin) scored her second goal of the season.

• Franklin Pierce scored twice to give them the 6-0 victory over Post. Kelly scored her second goal of the game on the powerplay. Three minutes later, Ruiz scored for the second time.  

 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

• Sophomore goaltender Jill Hertl (Highland Park, III) stopped all 22 shots she faced tonight. Hertl picked up her first shutout win of the season.

• Franklin Pierce was 2 for 5 on the power play.
