Six Different Goal Scorers Power Women's Hockey to 7-2 Win over Post

WINCHENDON, Mass (12/2/22) - The Ravens put their 2-1 loss in the rear-view mirror as six-different goal scorers help them surge ahead to a lopsided 7-2 victory over Post University to close out NEWHA conference play in 2022.

The Ravens, with the win, improve to 7-8-1 (5-4-1 NEWHA) on the season, while Post stumbles backwards with the loss, falling to 2-15-0 (2-10-0 NEWHA) overall.

Scoring came plentiful in every period for the Raven, who opened it up just two minutes into the first on a goal by Stefanie Caban (Fitchburg, Mass.) off a feed from Lindsey Dumond (Hampton, N.H.), rocketing a shot past Eagles goaltender Hannah Saunders from the point to give the Ravens the early 1-0 lead. The Eagles would respond just six minutes later, evening the score at 1-1 on the power play goal. Shortly thereafter, Avery Farrell (Otsego, Minn.) received a pass from Makenzie Rich (Rochester, Minn.) and rushed her way forward, sending a clean wrist shot to the top corner for her sixth goal of the season, returning the Ravens to the lead, 2-1.

The second period provided the same success for the Ravens, who dominating possession from the opening whistle. Junior Jenna Ruiz (Webster, Wis.) got the scoring going in the period after sending a slap shot from the left circle into an open cage, extending the lead to 3-1. As had been the case earlier in the game, another goal came just seconds later as freshman Grace Schuck (Bloomington, Minn.) mimicked Ruiz's goal with a slap shot from the left circle, collecting her first ever collegiate goal. Through the midway portion of the period, both teams fell victim to penalty trouble, before another first-career goal was scored by freshman Kylie Huseth (Ramsey, Minn.), who found herself alone in the slot to make it 5-1 game for the Ravens.

The third period saw Post on an early powerplay, but the offense continued to apply pressure when senior Reece Diener (McKinney, TX) contributed the sixth goal for the Ravens on a short-handed opportunity. Before the final horn, the Eagles would regain some momentum with a goal, pushing one past Raven goaltender Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) to cut the deficit to four. However, that was short-lived when Mikayla Kelley (Eagan, Minn.) pressed the attack and scored the seventh and final goal for the Ravens, finalizing the game at 7-2.

Jill Hertl picked up the win for the Ravens, manning the crease for 47-minutes played, stopping 15-of-17 before receiving relief from sophomore Nettie Kimbal (Bemidji, Minn.), who turned away her only shot faced. Eagle netminder Hannah Saunders (1-6-0) took the loss, allowing all five goals with 25 saves in the effort.

The Ravens go on the road to Long Island University (LIU) for a two-game series with the first being Friday December 9th at 3pm.
