Third Period Costly For Women's Hockey in 2-1 Loss Versus Post

WINCHENDON, Mass. (December 2, 2022) – Two power play goals in the third period for the Post University Eagles made the difference on Friday afternoon in a matchup with the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team, who fell by a score of 2-1 at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena on Friday afternoon.

The Ravens two-game win streak was broken with the loss, as they fall to 6-8-1 (4-4-1 NEWHA) overall on the season. On the other end, the Eagles snapped a thirteen-game losing streak with the win, moving to 2-14-0 (2-9 NEWHA) on the season.

The first period saw no goals, but that changed in the second period with Junior Jenna Ruiz (Webster, Wisc.) scoring the first of the afternoon for the Ravens. She picked up a bouncing puck that skipped off the stick of an Eagle defenseman and buried it with her backhand past goalie Grace Glasrud to put the Ravens in front. With the goal, she ties Freshman Avery Farrell (Ostego, Minn.) for the team lead in goals with five. Farrell added her team leading 6th assist of the season on the goal.

The Ravens went into the third period with the lead, until a tying goal for Post came off the stick of sophomore Kiersten Browning on the power play. She followed up her initial shot in the slot and poked it through the crease to tie the game 1-1. Freshman Madeleine Noonan and Sophomore Sheridan Terrazzano each assisted on the goal.

The Eagles success on the power play continued in the third period. Browning added her second goal of the day, positioning herself along the right post and putting in an intentionally wide shot off the boards by Terrazzano, who got her second assist of the game on the goal. The Ravens had a chance in the final two minutes to tie the game up with a power play, pulling Hertl to create a 6-on-4 opportunity. They couldn't find a way to beat Glasrud as time ran out in the third period and their efforts came up short.

Junior Grace Glasrud finished with a whopping 43 saves in net for the Eagles and picked up her first win of the season (1-9-0). Freshman Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) suffered the loss (5-4-1), turning aside 14 of 16 shots for the Ravens

The two teams meet again tomorrow for a 2:00 p.m. faceoff, closing out the weekend series at Jason Ritchie Arena
