Franklin Pierce women's ice hockey

WINCHENDON, Mass. (December 7, 2021) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team surrendered three goals in a span of just 3:35 early in the first period on Tuesday night, and it would not get any better from there inside the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. The Ravens trailed 4-0 after one and gave up two more in the second, on the way to a 7-0, non-conference loss to Dartmouth. Seven different players scored one even-strength goal apiece for the Big Green.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 8-7-1 and has lost three in a row, while Dartmouth improves to 5-8-0. The Ravens also opened the season with three straight losses as well, which meant Tuesday night marked the first time since the program's inaugural season of 2012-13 Franklin Pierce suffered multiple losing streaks of three or more games in the same season.

It was the team's 110th all-time game at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena, where Franklin Pierce has been dominant over the years, to the tune of a 76-30-4 record (.709 winning percentage). The seven-goal margin is the worst defeat for the Ravens on home ice since the team's inaugural game, which was a 13-2 loss at the hands of Salve Regina on Oct. 26, 2012.

Things got out of hand early, as Dartmouth filled up the net in the first period. Junior Sydney Herrington opened the scoring at 5:06, as she took control of a turnover and immediately rifled it to the back of the Franklin Pierce net from the left circle. Freshman Lauren Messier followed up at 7:27, when she finished off a rebound out front. It would be three goals in less than four minutes for the Big Green, after junior Catherine Trevors picked the top corner from the left circle on the rush at 8:41.

Dartmouth would pot one more later in the period, as a centering feed from sophomore Abby Grexton set up fellow sophomore Jenna Donohue at 14:27. That would spell the day for Franklin Pierce senior netminder Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.), who departed after allowing four goals on 10 shots, and ultimately suffered the loss (3-5-0). Sophomore Suzette Faucher (Middleton, Wis.) took over from there and made 18 saves against 21 shots the rest of the way.

The Big Green put home two more in the second and another in the third to win going away. In the second, junior Celine Pietraszek fed freshman Laura Fuoco right out front from the right-wing corner at 3:12, and then junior CC Bowlby scored one right out front as well, at 17:08. In the third, a feed from the right side by senior Gabby Billing set up Pietraszek on the left side at the six-minute mark.

Freshman Maggie Emerson (5-7-0) stopped all 23 shots on her goal to notch her first collegiate shutout.

The Ravens are on the road this weekend for their final action before the winter break, with a non-conference weekend series at Union. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday at Messa Rink in Schenectady, N.Y.
