WINCHENDON, Mass. (November 6, 2021) -- Sophomore Jenna Ruiz (Webster, Wis.) scored twice in a span of 5:22 in the third period on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team erased a 3-1 deficit to forge a 3-3 (OT) tie with visiting New Hampshire at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Ruiz factored in on all three goals, as she had a first-period assist as well, while fellow sophomore Suzette Faucher (Middleton, Wis.) made 38 saves. Three different players found the net for UNH in the tie.

With the tie, Franklin Pierce moves to 4-4-1, while UNH now stands at 2-5-2.

UNH got things started with a shorthanded goal at the 4:54 mark of the first period. After sophomore Brianna Brooks won a faceoff in her own end, junior Tamara Thierus took off with the puck the other way, down the right side. On the partial break, she made a move to the net, and while Faucher made the initial save, Thierus finished off her own rebound for her fourth goal of the season.

Franklin Pierce got it back before the intermission, at 19:36, with a rebound goal of its own. Junior Cassidy Jones (Stillwater, Minn.) had the initial shot on the play from the high slot, and Ruiz had a chance out front too. Eventually, the puck squirted loose to the bottom of the right circle for sophomore Brooke Remington (Scandia, Minn.), who popped home her fourth goal of the campaign.

The Wildcats then scored the only two goals of the second period, both off of Franklin Pierce turnovers in its own end, as UNH jumped to a 3-1 lead. At 11:03, sophomore Kyla Bent set up fellow sophomore Chavonne Truter, who snapped a shot from the middle of the left circle for her first goal of the year. At 15:21, senior Lauren Martin poked the puck free for sophomore Nicole Kelly in the slot, and the latter deked her way to a finish at the right post for her first of the year.

The Ravens got on the comeback trail in the first half of the third period, with Ruiz doing the heavy lifting. Just 80 seconds into the frame, she finished off a rebound at the right post for her third of the year, while sophomore Emilie Prive (Morrisville, Vt.) and Jones picked up the assists.

Franklin Pierce would get the only power-play opportunity of the third period and made the best of it. Remington and junior Becca Kniss (Eden Prairie, Minn.) combined to work the puck to Ruiz down low on the right side. Ruiz carried the puck up the wall, cut out into the circle and buried a wrist shot to record her second career multiple-goal game.

The rest of the third period went without further scoring, as would overtime. Franklin Pierce held on in the extra session, as UNH piled up an 11-1 shots advantage in the five-minute frame.

Faucher (3-1-1) finished with 38 saves against 41 shots in the Franklin Pierce crease in the tie. At the other end of the ice, junior Ava Thewes (0-0-1) stopped 19 of 22 shots for UNH.
