Women’s Ice Hockey’s Massaro Named NEWHA Rookie of the Week

NEWHA Weekly Release (PDF)

RINDGE, N.H. (December 5, 2017) – For the third straight awards period, a member of the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team has earned New England Women’s Hockey Alliance Rookie of the Week honors. This time around, for the two-week period ending on Dec. 3, the honor goes to freshman forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.), as announced on Tuesday morning by the NEWHA.

Over the course of three games on either side of the Thanksgiving break, Massaro tallied four points on three goals and an assist, while the Ravens went 2-0-1. At Castleton on Nov. 21, she put home her first collegiate goal to win the game early in overtime. This past weekend, Massaro scored once in each game of a 1-0-1 trip to Morrisville State. On Friday night, she scored the team’s only goal in a 1-1 tie, and then added a third-period insurance marker in a 4-1 win on Saturday afternoon.

On the season, Massaro has played in all 12 games for the Ravens thus far, and is tied for fourth on the team in scoring, with seven points on three goals and four assists. She has scored one game-winning goal, which came on the power play, and is +1 with 34 shots on goal.

The Ravens (5-6-1) will look to get back to .500 for the first time this season when they return to the ice on Friday, Dec. 8, at home against Plymouth State. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
