WINCHENDON, Mass. (November 10, 2017) – A three-goal third period helped the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team get back in the win column on Friday night at the Jason Ritchie Ice arena. Ultimately, the Ravens -- who were just 1-for-30 on the man-advantage coming into the night -- struck for three power-play goals on the way to a 5-2 win over Saint Michael's.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-4-0, while Saint Michael's falls to 2-5-0. The two teams will wrap up the two-game weekend series on Saturday in Winchendon, beginning at 2 p.m.

After the first period went scoreless, Franklin Pierce put home the first of its three second-stanza goals at the 5:12 mark. Freshman forward Kelsey Ryan (Burlington, Mass.) had the finish on her first collegiate goal with a snap shot from the right-wing circle. Sophomore forward Meg Gilbride (Braintree, Mass.) and freshman forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.) added the assists as the entirely of the Bay State line got in on the act.

The Ravens would make it 2-0 just 62 seconds later, after Saint Michael's took a pair of minors at the 5:33 mark. On the ensuing 5-on-3, freshman forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.) banged home a rebound right our front for her second goal of the season. Sophomore defenseman Katie Neuburger (Fayetteville, N.Y.) provided the original shot on the play, while freshman defenseman Carolyn Drowne (Bridgewater, Mass.) notched her first of three assists on the night, at 6:14.

Franklin Pierce struck as time expired in the second period to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room. Sophomore defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) had the finish from the left circle amid some harried play as the frame's final seconds ticked off the clock. Senior forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) picked up an assist, which marked the 96^th point of her career. The goal was officially credited at 19:59, though the officials elected not to conduct a final faceoff in the period, as the horn had sounded just tenths-of-a-second after the puck entered the net.

Saint Michael's would get a 5-on-3 of its own early in the third period and used it to get on the board at 5:55. Senior forward Kaitlyn Wurzer put a long, floating shot untouched through traffic from the left point for her second goal of the campaign. Fellow senior forward Katherine O'Brien provided the setup with a pass from the left-wing circle.

Franklin Pierce reclaimed the three-goal lead with a power-play marker at 11:38, on a similar play. Shooting through traffic from the left point, Neuburger wired a shot which somehow went untouched into the top-right corner for her first goal of the year. Drowne had the lone helper, as she dished the puck across the blue line from the right point.

The Ravens pushed the lead out to 5-1 with their third power-play goal of the night, at 14:03. From the right point, Drowne sent the puck into the right circle for freshman forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.). Parker cut through the circle towards the slot and snapped home her first career goal. Amato tacked on an assist on the play as well.

Saint Michael's converted on a rush up the ice at 17:07 to create the 5-2 final. Taking the puck from her own blue line, freshman forward Krista Ferrari came into the Franklin Pierce zone on the right-wing side with a full head of steam. As she skated through the right circle, the puck was poke-checked off her stick by a Ravens' defender. However, the poke check would wind up serving as a drop pass to the trailer on the play, freshman forward Maddie Gervais. Gervais picked the top-right corner from the middle of the right circle to tally her first collegiate goal as well.

Freshman goaltender Kelly Turner (Fort Gratiot, Mich.) picked up her first career win (1-2-0) by making 16 saves against 18 shots on goal. At the other end of the ice, freshman Lucy Chin (0-1-0) made 29 saves against 34 shots in her first collegiate start for Saint Michael's.
