NEWHA Weekly Release (PDF)

RINDGE, N.H. (January 30, 2018) – Freshman forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team has been named New England Women’s Hockey Alliance Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Jan. 28, as announced on Tuesday by the NEWHA.

Massaro collected four points on a goal and three assists in the Ravens’ 2-0-0 weekend at Saint Michael’s on Friday and Saturday. On Friday afternoon, she scored in the second period and later assisted on the third-period game-winner in a 4-3 victory. In Saturday afternoon’s 3-0 win, she dished out a pair of assists, including a helper on the game-winning goal.

On the season, Massaro has played in all 21 of the team’s games and is currently the club’s second-leading scorer with 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists. She has scored two power-play goals and two game-winning goals, and has tallied 62 shots on goal.

It marked the second time this season Massaro has taken home NEWHA Rookie of the Week accolades, as she was previously honored for the week ending on Dec. 3. Franklin Pierce has now had a Rookie of the Week honoree in six of the season’s 11 weeks. Massaro shared this week’s award with Saint Anselm freshman forward Taylor Ham, who went for 2-2-4 in a 2-0-1 week for the Hawks.

The Ravens (12-7-2) return to the ice on Feb. 2-3, when they return home to host Sacred Heart in an NEWHA weekend series. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon.
