Women’s Ice Hockey’s Brolsma Named NEWHA Player of the Week

RINDGE, N.H. (January 9, 2018) – Senior forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team has been named New England Women’s Hockey Alliance Player of the Week for the week ending on Jan. 7, as announced on Tuesday by the NEWHA.

In Franklin Pierce’s only game last week, Brolsma put together a three-point outing (2-1-3), as she scored a pair of power-play goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist as well. She recorded four shots on goal in the Ravens’ 4-2 win over visiting Johnson & Wales on Sunday afternoon.

On the season, Brolsma has played in all 15 of Franklin Pierce’s games and leads the team in scoring with 16 points (8-8-16). Her eight goals and eight assists are both team-leading numbers as well. Brolsma has scored four power-play goals, one shorthanded goal and one game-winning goal, and leads the team with 60 shots on goal.

It is Brolsma’s second NEWHA Player of the Week award of the season. She was also honored for the week ending on Nov. 19.

The Ravens (8-6-1) have won four in a row and are unbeaten in their last six (5-0-1). They return to the ice on Jan. 12-13, when they travel to Post for a two-game weekend series. Opening faceoff is set for 4:45 p.m. on Friday and 2:15 p.m. on Saturday at Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Conn.
