Women’s Ice Hockey Fills Up Net on Opening Night, Drops Daniel Webster, 12-1

Four score twice; Holmes, Harron, Ketterman each notch 2-2-4

TYNGSBORO, Mass. (October 30, 2015) – Taking on a first-year program to open the season, the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team picked up right where it left off in 2014-15 on Friday night, scoring goals in bunches en route to a 12-1 win over Daniel Webster in non-conference play at Skate 3 Arena. Senior forwards Karsyn Baker (Detroit, Mich.) and Bryana Harron (Woburn, Mass.), junior forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) and junior forward Michelle Holmes (Goffstown, N.H.) scored two goals each in the rout for the Ravens.

With the win, Franklin Pierce opens its fourth season at 1-0-0, while Daniel Webster kicks off its inaugural season at 0-1-0. The two teams are scheduled to meet again, at Franklin Pierce, on Jan. 22. The 12 goals scored and the 11-goal margin of victory on Friday night each set new program records for Franklin Pierce.

Holmes, in her first year with Franklin Pierce after transferring in from Salve Regina, wasted no time making her presence felt in crimson and grey, as she struck for the season's first goal at the 2:28 mark of the first period, off an assist from senior forward Haylea Barbieri (Plainville, Mass.).

Daniel Webster answered with its only goal of the game at 10:56, as freshman forward Brittany Tierney finished off a pass from sophomore defenseman Kathryn Noreen. Baker and Ketterman would later score 35 seconds apart to give Franklin Pierce a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission. Senior forward Colleen Doucette (Wakefield, Mass.) set up Baker at 14:16, followed by Ketterman finishing off an assist from Harron at 14:51, marking the start of Harron's four-point night (2-2-4).

The Ravens blew the doors off the game in the second period, scoring seven times, spanning from Baker's goal at the 52-second mark to a goal by sophomore forward Sara Diltz (Palmer, Alaska) at the 19:59 mark. Harron and Ketterman each had a goal and an assist in the frame, as did both junior forward Lanie Matsumoto (Fort Collins, Colo.) and senior defenseman Sarah Sheils (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Also in the period, Holmes and sophomore forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) dished out a pair of assists each, while freshman defenseman Savannah Hainley (Caledonia, Mich.) added a helper for her first collegiate point.

In the third period, Harron put in a shorthanded goal and Holmes added a power-play marker to create the 12-1 final. Ketterman added an assist to complete her own four-point night (2-2-4), while Holmes' goal was the last of her four points (2-2-4) in the game as well.

Junior goaltender Shannon O'Neil (Tewksbury, Mass.) logged the first two periods in goal and made two saves against just three shots on goal to pick up the win (1-0-0), as the Ravens outshot Daniel Webster 81-4 on the night. Sophomore Madison Murray (Berkley, Mich.) took over for the third period and stopped the only shot she faced.

For Daniel Webster, sophomore Michelle Davis (0-1-0) played the first 40 minutes and finished with 46 saves against 56 shots on goal. Freshman Ariana Kresic logged the final stanza for the Eagles and made 23 saves against 25 shots.

The Ravens return to the ice on Saturday, Oct. 31, when they travel to Becker for another non-conference contest against a first-year program. Opening faceoff is set for 2:50 p.m. at New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Mass.
