Three Ravens collect multiple points

Baker Baker had her third game of the season with three points or more on Saturday afternoon at Buffalo State.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (December 7, 2013) – Sophomore forward Karsyn Baker (Detroit, Mich.) scored twice, including the game-winner, and added an assist on Saturday afternoon, while sophomore defenseman Sarah Sheils (Pittsburgh, Pa.) dished out three assists to lead the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team to a 4-1 win on the road against Buffalo State at Buffalo State Ice Arena. Junior forward Kara Goodwin had the lone goal in defeat for Buffalo State.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 6-1-0 and notches its third consecutive win, while Buffalo State falls to 0-10-0 (0-6-0 ECAC West). Franklin Pierce held Buffalo State to just 16 shots on the afternoon -- including only two in the first period -- en route to enjoying a 27-16 advantage. The two teams will meet again on Sunday at noon to wrap up the two-game weekend series.

Baker and the Ravens got things started early on Friday, finding the back of the net just 31 seconds into the proceedings. Sophomore forward Colleen Doucette (Wakefield, Mass.) and Sheils picked up the helpers on Baker's fourth of the season. Franklin Pierce would make it 2-0 at 9:25 of the first stanza, with the first of three power-play goals on the afternoon. Once again, Sheils and Doucette set up Baker for what would eventually stand as the game-winning goal.

Buffalo State got on the board at the 8:00 mark of the middle frame, with its only power-play score in five opportunities. Goodwin notched her fourth of the season, unassisted.

Franklin Pierce would cash in two more power-play goals over the remainder of the game to finish 3-for-8 with the man-advantage and create the 4-1 final. At 12:07 of the second period, freshman forward Nina Danforth (Stratford, Conn.) put home her second goal of the campaign off assists from freshman forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) and sophomore forward Francesca Paciello (Clinton, N.Y.). Later, at 15:29 of the third frame, Sheils and Baker set up the second of the season for freshman defenseman Katie Flynn (Sandwich, Mass.) to cap the scoring.

Freshman goaltender Noelle White (Corona, Calif.) faced only 16 shots and made 15 saves to pick up the win (4-1-0) in front of the Franklin Pierce net. At the other end, sophomore Sarah Quigley turned aside 23 shots and took the loss (0-2-0) in the crease for Buffalo State.
