Women’s Ice Hockey Suffers First Loss in 3-1 Defeat at Holy Cross

Ketterman scores in second straight game

Ravens Women's Ice Hockey The Ravens suffered their first loss of 2013-14 on Tuesday night at Holy Cross.

WORCESTER, Mass. (November 12, 2013) – Freshman forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) scored a second-period goal to cut the deficit to 2-1, but it would be the only goal of the night for the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team, as it dropped a 3-1 decision to Holy Cross at Hart Recreation Center. Junior forward Rachel Miller scored the eventual game-winning goal in the first period for Holy Cross.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-1-0, while Holy Cross improves to 3-0-0 (1-0-0 ECAC East). Holy Cross was stingy defensively throughout the evening, as the Crusaders posted a 30-11 advantage in shots, including a 9-1 edge in the first period.

Holy Cross scored both of the first period's goals to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, which was a lead it would never relinquish. Freshman forward Rose Rather opened the scoring with her fourth goal in three collegiate games at the 4:53 mark, while junior forward Mary Klimasewiski picked up the assist. Later, at the 10:42 mark, Miller put home her third goal of the campaign off a helper from junior forward Chelsea Monahan.

Franklin Pierce got on the board with a power-play marker at the 3:16 mark of the middle stanza. Ketterman notched her second goal of the season, and her second goal in as many games, with the lone assist going to sophomore forward Francesca Paciello (Clinton, N.Y.).

An insurance marker early in the third period created the 3-1 final. At the 2:47 mark, with Holy Cross on the power play, freshman defenseman Izzy Bagi scored her first career goal, with freshman forward Livvy Konaxis junior defenseman Francesca Panarelli picking up the assists.

Freshman goaltender Noelle White (Corona, Calif.) made 27 saves, including 13 in the third period, but took the loss (2-1-0) in net for Franklin Pierce. At the other end, junior Alexandra Stevenson turned aside 10 shots to pick up the win (2-0-0) between the pipes for Holy Cross.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Nov. 22, when they return home to host Stevenson. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
