KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 4, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's golf team closed out its season on Wednesday, at the third round of the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by William Jewell, at the par-71, 5865-yard Shoal Creek Golf Club. It was a 10th-place finish, out of 15 teams, for the Ravens, who slipped one spot on the final day, after a third-round 317 (+33). Freshman Kesinee Prukmathakul (Bangkok, Thailand) finished tied-12th as the team's highest individual finisher in an 81-golfer field.

Prukmathakul and fellow Thai freshman Phisonlaya Ruayruen (Chiangmai, Thailand) both turned in rounds of 77 (+6) in Tuesday's final round. The former finished in a two-way tie for 12th at 73-76-77--226 (+13), while the latter was solo-29th at 79-79-77--235 (+22). Junior Alia Godek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) put together a final-round 81 (+10) to slip into the top 50 as part of a tie for 45th at 84-78-81--243 (+30). Junior Micaela Leandro (Harlingen, Texas) and sophomore Kayla Schuberth (Wrentham, Mass.) rounded out the team's five-player lineup with rounds of 82 (+11) and 84 (+13), respectively. Both finished as part of a tie for 67th at 256 (+43).

It all added up to the best round of the tournament for Franklin Pierce, at 317 (+33), though all three of the Ravens' rounds were separated by just two shots on the way to the 10th-place finish at 318-319-317--954 (+102). At the top of the field, Findlay cruised to the East Regional title at 292-290-291--873 (+21), which was good for a 27-stroke victory over Indianapolis, which checked in at 305-297-298--900 (+48). Tiffin at 916 (+64), Grand Valley State at 921 (+69) and Missouri-St. Louis at 924 (+72) rounded out the top five, all of which qualified for the upcoming NCAA Championship National Finals.

Individually, a pair of Findlay golfers tied for the low 54-hole score to lead the Oilers to the regional crown. Senior Jill Schmitmeyer was consistent throughout, with a final line of 71-71-72--214 (+1), while freshman Mary Kelly Mulcahy put together the only under-par round of the tournament with a Wednesday 69 (-2), to close a three-shot deficit and finish at 73-72-69--214 (+1). For good measure, Mulcahy won the playoff against her teammate to claim East Regional medalist honors.

In addition to the five advancing teams, the two low-scoring individuals not on a qualifying team earned an appearance in the National Finals as well. One of those berths went to Malone graduate student Christina Williams, who finished tied-sixth at 73-75-73--221 (+8). Northwood (Mich.) senior Ines Dorado and Lindenwood senior McKenna Montgomery tied each other for ninth and the final qualifying spot, at 223 (+10). Dorado claimed the berth on the second playoff hole.
