Franklin Pierce Women’s Golf Leads Halfway Through Senior Showdown

Phisonlaya Ruayruen

SOUTHWICK, Mass. (April 24, 2022) -- Just one week out from NCAA Championship play, the Franklin Pierce University women's golf team began its final regular-season tune-up on Sunday at the Senior Showdown, hosted by Stonehill. Thanks to a late scratch, the Ravens fielded just a four-player lineup in the first round, but it did not slow them down. Led by an even-par 72 from freshman Phisonlaya Ruayruen (Chiangmai, Thailand), Franklin Pierce leads a four-team field by 24 shots midway through the two-day tournament, held at The Ranch Golf Club, which checks in at 5822 yards.

The Ravens had two of the top three in the 23-golfer field at the end of the first round, as Ruayruen sat in second, three shots off the lead, and fellow freshman Kesinee Prukmathakul (Bangkok, Thailand) was in third, after an opening-round 74 (+2). Junior Alia Godek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and sophomore Kayla Schuberth (Wrentham, Mass.) rounded out the Franklin Pierce four in sixth and seventh, respectively, with a 77 (+5) and a 78 (+6).

It all added up to a 301 (+13) for the Ravens, which was 24 shots better than the next-closest competition in a field composed entirely of Northeast-10 Conference schools. With one round still to play, Adelphi is second at 325 (+37), Saint Rose is third at 334 (+46), and host Stonehill is fourth at 347 (+59).

Individually, Adelphi sophomore Ilaria Ponziani was the only one better than Ruayruen on Sunday, as she turned in a three-under-par 69 to lead the way. Behind Franklin Pierce's Thai duo, Saint Rose sophomore Erika Fuentes is fourth at 75 (+3) and American International freshman Tia-Marie Martinez is fifth at 76 (+4), competing as an individual.

The Senior Showdown will wrap up on Monday at The Ranch.
