Franklin Pierce women's golf

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (April 19, 2022) -- It was the fifth win of the season on Tuesday for the Franklin Pierce University women's golf team, as the Ravens converted a first-round lead into a 28-shot victory at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by American International, at the par-72 Ledges Golf Club. Freshman Phisonlaya Ruayruen (Chiangmai, Thailand) led Franklin Pierce with a second-place finish, as the Ravens put four golfers inside the top 10 of a 40-golfer field.

Per usual, it was the pair of Thai golfers who led the way for the Ravens at AIC, with the twist being that neither of them took home medalist honors. Ruayruen finished second at 81-79--160 (+16), while fellow freshman Kesinee Prukmathakul (Bangkok, Thailand) came home in third, at 81-80--161 (+17). Junior Alia Godek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) followed in sixth at 78-88--166 (+22), and fellow junior Micaela Leandro (Harlingen, Texas) took eighth at 85-83--168 (+24). Sophomore Alexis St. Laurent (Nashua, N.H.) was tied-11th at 86-84--170 (+26), to round out Franklin Pierce's five-player lineup.

After an opening-round 325 (+37), the Ravens had led by just four shots at the end of play Monday, but steamed away from the rest of the field on Tuesday. Franklin Pierce's second-round 326 (+38) was not only the best round of the day on Tuesday, but it was the best round by 19 shots, which allowed the Ravens to post a 28-shot victory at 325-326--651 (+75). Adelphi took second at 334-345--679 (+103), while Stonehill finished third at 329-354--683 (+107).

Individually, Saint Rose sophomore Erika Fuentes used a first-round 75 (+3) to power to a 75-82--157 (+13) finish, which was good enough for a three-shot victory over Ruayruen. Behind Franklin Pierce's Thai twosome, it was a pair of Adelphi golfers to round out the top five. Sophomore Ilaria Ponziani was fourth at 80-83--163 (+19), while junior Emily McKenna took fifth at 84-81--165 (+21).

The Ravens will wrap up the regular season next week at the two-day Stonehill Spring Invitational in Southwick, Mass.
