Women’s Golf Ninth After Two Rounds at Barry Invitational

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. (March 21, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's golf team got back to competition on Monday, as the Ravens opened the spring portion of their season with two rounds of play at the Barry University Invitational, at the 6020-yard, par-72 Senator's Course at Shula's Golf Club. Freshman Phisonlaya Ruayruen (Chiangmai, Thailand) led the effort for Franklin Pierce on Tuesday and is tied-13th with one round to play, while the team is currently ninth, in a high-caliber 13-team field.

Ruayruen opened with an even-par 72 but slid backwards a bit with an afternoon 79 (+7), for a two-round total of 151 (+7) and is in a five-way tie for 13th, seven shots off the lead. It was two inside the top 30 of the 77-golfer field for the Ravens, as fellow freshman Kesinee Prukmathakul (Bangkok, Thailand) turned in an opening-day 81-74--155 (+11) and is tied-30th.

Farther back, sophomore Kayla Schuberth (Wrentham, Mass.) is tied-56th after an 83-79--162 (+18) performance on Monday, while junior Micaela Leandro (Harlingen, Texas) is tied-59th at 85-79--164 (+20). Junior Alia Godek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) rounded out Franklin Pierce's five-player lineup at 88-89--177 (+33) and is tied-73rd.

It all added up to rounds of 321 (+33) and 311 (+23), which made a first-day total of 632 (+56) for the ninth-place Ravens. Up front, host Barry put together a Monday total of 298-294--592 (+16) and heads into Tuesday with a three-shot lead over Tampa, at 301-294--595 (+19). Nova Southeastern is third at 303-295--598 (+22), and the top-five spots are all occupied by Florida schools.

At the top of the individual leaderboard, it was even-par across the board for Tampa sophomore Emilie Bjorge, who carded back-to-back 72s and leads by one at 144, over Barry senior Eve Marie Sapin at 75-70--145 (+1). Tampa freshman Ana Maria Jimenez Rios went 75-71--146 (+2) and is third, while senior Loren Perez and Indianapolis freshman Anci Dy are tied-fourth at 147 (+3) to round out the top five.

The Barry Invitational will wrap up with the third and final round on Tuesday at the Senator's Course.
