Seniors Morrison and Schmidt Carry Women’s Golf to Fourth Team Tournament Victory

KEENE, N.H. (October 16, 2017) Following their first Northeast-10 Conference Championship and being selected as the NE10 Team of the Month for September, the Franklin Pierce University women's golf team hosted the FPU Fall Invitational after a three-week hiatus at the Keene Country Club in Keene, N.H. Sunday and Monday. The Ravens won the event to capture their fourth team title of the fall while six golfers placed within the individual top-10.

Franklin Pierce led wire to wire as the group of five turned in a 305 (+17) on Sunday and a 320 (+32) Monday on the par 72, 5,924 yard course. Le Moyne College remained in the second place spot by shooting a 329 (+41) yesterday and a 340 (+52) today while Assumption College rounded out the top-three at 687 (+111).

"We had an awesome team effort at our tournament this week" said head coach Tyler Bishop. "All eight of our players got to play and played really solid. It was a special tournament for our two senior captains Camden and Taylor for not only winning the team championship, but they finished first and second individually in their last home tournament."

All Raven golfers that counted to the team total placed within the invites top-10. The Crimson and Grey were led by seniors Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) and Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.) who finished first and second respectively with 149 (+5) and 153 (+9) scorecards. Morrison won her second tournament of the fall while Schmidt recorded her third top-10 finish of the campaign as she dropped a team-best three strokes from her first-day scorecard. Morrison led all golfers in par 3 scoring (3.25, +2), par 5 scoring (4.50, -4) and total birdies (6). Schmidt recorded par 4 scoring bests of 4.25 (+5) as well. The weekend tournament was also their last home invitational of their college careers.

Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) shot a team-low 74 (+2) on Sunday and placed fourth overall at 159 (+15). Daley's fourth-place finish was her highest of the fall as she tallied one of only two birdies across the two rounds. Teammates Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Rosa Jones (Mastic, N.Y.) tied for seventh at 166 (+22). Both golfers have yet to place outside of the top-10 this year.

Three Ravens participated as individuals over both days. Sophomore Taylor Hartley (Battle Ground, Wash.) finished third in the standings which was her best finish of the year at 158 (+14). Hartley took off two strokes on Monday as she was six over with a 78 and was second overall behind Morrison in total birdies (5).

Sophomore Sydney Caron (Gorham, Maine) and junior Shannon Slater (Stafford Springs, Conn.) also made the trip to Keene as they tallied marks of 186 (+42) and 195 (+51) respectively.

Franklin Pierce concludes their fall schedule next week when they travel to the Old Hickory Golf Club in Nashville, Tenn.
