Morrison Medals for the Fourth Time, Ravens Finish Second in North Carolina

WHISPERING PINES, N.C. (March 18, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University junior golfer Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) dropped 10 strokes off her day one score to take home first place and lead the Ravens to a second place finish during the Browngolf Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Whispering Pines in North Carolina on Saturday.

Morrison (156, +12) earned her fourth medal of the year as she's took home the top spot at the FPU Fall Invitational (69, -3), the Michael Corbett Fall Classic (146, +2), and the Trevecca Fall Invitational (145, +1). She bettered her day one mark of 83 (+11) to stroke a 72 (+1) on the second day and improved her place in the standings by six spots.

As a team, the Ravens knocked one stroke off their day one team score to finish the Intercollegiate at 689 (+113) which was good enough for second place. The Ravens jumped from third to second at the conclusion of the Intercollegiate. West Chester University remained in first to take home the team title at 673 (+97) and Mercyhurst University gained a spot in the standings to place third at 693 (+117). Chowan University fell to fourth place.

 

Day One - Friday

The Crimson and Grey ended day one in third place of 12 teams in the standings with a 345 (+57) and were only two strokes behind Chowan University for the second spot.

Individually, freshman golfer Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) was tied for fifth place with an 82 (+10) through the first 18 holes. Morrison was only one stroke behind Yamamoto.

Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.) golfed an 88 (+16) and ranked within the Intercollegiate top-25. Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) (92, +20) and Rosa Jones (Mastic, N.Y.) (95, +23) round out the Raven day one performances.

 

Day Two – Saturday

Morrison was the story on Saturday as she shot a 73 which was only one stroke over par. Yamamoto added two strokes to her day one score to finish within the top-10 at sixth place (166, +22). Schmidt fell eight spots to place 30th at (182, +38) while Daley (185 +41) and Jones (190 +46) gained two places in the standings each to move to 32nd and 36th respectively.

The Ravens will head back to the course next weekend when they travel to the Battle at the Bay on Sunday March 26th.
