Women’s Golf finishes eighth at Merrimack Invitational

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (October 6, 2014) – Freshman Anna Haynes (Hopedale, Mass.) shot an 82 on Monday after shooting a team-best 85 on Sunday to tie for 15th in the field, and to lead the Franklin Pierce Women's Golf team to an eighth place finish at the Merrimack College Women's Invitational.

Classmate Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.) finished in a tie for 22th after shooting an 80, marking the best Raven score on Monday, while freshman Ashley Chubbuck (Windsor, M.E.) finished tied for 30th after shooting an 86, bettering her score from Sunday.

Freshman Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) and Katy Lounsbery (Middletown, N.Y.) rounded out the Ravens participation for the weekend. Morrison also improved off her Sunday score of 96, shooting a 91 on Monday, while Lounsbery shot a 117 for the second consecutive day to finish out her round.

Grand Valley State won both the team standings and individual standings, with their top two golfers on top of the leaderboard for the second consecutive day. Gabrielle Shipley led the way, shooting lights out both days and finishing with 71 on Monday after a round of 70 on Sunday, while teammate Kelly Hartigan shot back to back rounds of 77 to tie for second.

After Grand Valley State, Missouri-St.Louis finished second, followed by Merrimack, Walsh, Wheeling Jesuit, Holy Cross, LeMoyne, Franklin Pierce, and Southern New Hampshire.

The Ravens will conclude their fall season on Thursday, October 16 when they square off against Southern New Hampshire at the Candia Woods Golf Links in Candia, N.H.
