Women’s Bowling Places 12th at Hawk Classic

MILLSBORO, Del. (November 20, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce women's bowling team headed on the road to the Millsboro Lanes in Delaware to compete this weekend at the Hawk Classic hosted by University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

FPU finished the trip with a 7-7 mark and currently stand at 26-16 (.619) on the season. The Ravens finished in 12th place of 18 teams with a total pinfall of 12,840 in 72 games for an average of 178.3 a contest. FPU jumped up two spots in the standings from the second day of competition.

Sam Houston State University took home first place with a 13-1 record on the weekend and knocked down 15,093 pins and averaged 204 a match. Monmouth and host Maryland Eastern Shore finished second and third respectively.

Day One - Friday

The Crimson and Grey earned a huge win over no. 2 nationally-ranked and defending NCAA Champion Stephen F. Austin State University 1,015-900. The Ravens also bested Howard University in extra rolls 115-97 and started the day off with an 864-829 victory against University of Alabama at Birmingham. At the conclusion of the first day, FPU lost versus East Coast Conference rival Adelphi, 988-910 and to no. 7 nationally-ranked Central Missouri 982-924.

Freshman Krysta Peirce (Lenox, Mich.) led the team in baker average after the first day, as she racked up a 19.86 average. Junior Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.) ranked second on the squad in baker average knocking down 19.55 pins. Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) rolled a 19.54 baker average and junior Jessica Marcure (Attleboro, Mass.) stroked a 19.00 average.

Day Two – Saturday

The team went 2-4 on the second day of competition with a 991-819 victory over no. 17 nationally-ranked Kutztown and a 965-811 win against no. 23 nationally-ranked Norfolk

In the win over Kutztown, team captain Jessica Davies rolled a 238 which was the highest score of the day for the Crimson and Grey. Nicolette Vucak tallied a 221 and Krysta Peirce racked up a 190. Versus Norfolk, Peirce led the way with a 234 score. Teammate Sarah Busse (Commack, N.Y.) bowled 192 and Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in a 191.

Davies and Peirce added two high scores in the Ravens setbacks as Davies threw a 222 against North Carolina A&T and Peirce roped in a 195.

At the end of the second day, Davies ranked 24th out of 130 qualified bowlers with a total pinfall of 1,157 and an average of 192.83.

Day Three – Sunday

Day three was a best of seven tournament style competition. In their first match of the day the Ravens won by a 4-2 score versus no. 15 nationally-ranked Saint Francis (Pa.). With the win, the Crimson and Grey advanced to the next round to face off against St. Francis (N.Y.) and defeated the no. 20 nationally-ranked opponent by another 4-2 score. FPU's tourney run ended in their showdown with no. 8 nationally-ranked North Carolina A&T with a 4.5-.5 setback.

The Ravens head back to the alley on the weekend of January 20th when they head back to Kutztown, Pa. for the KU Invitational at the Hiester Lanes in Reading, Pa.
