Bowling Finishes Eighth, Two Named to All-Tournament Team

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. (October 30, 2016) - The Franklin Pierce women's bowling team traveled to Fairleigh Dickinson University for the New Jersey Jamboree at the Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park, N.J. this past weekend.

The Crimson and Grey finished in eighth place out of 27 teams with a total pinfall of 12,041 good for a total average of 179.7 per game. Overall the Ravens have gone 7-5 in the tournament and stand at 17-9 on the campaign.

Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) and Jessica Marcure (Attleboro, Mass.) were named to the All-Tournament team. Davies placed ninth with an average of 196.40 and Marcure finished in 10th after her teammate averaging a total of 196.20 over the weekend.

The squad was 3-2 against nationally ranked opponents over the three days and have gone 6-4 this season versus top echelon teams.

Day One - Friday

FPU opened the tournament with a 941-915 victory over no. 22 nationally ranked, Prairie View A&M. The Ravens then reeled off two more wins over Howard (862-807) and New Jersey City (897-790) before falling to no. 17 nationally ranked Kutztown (892-910) for the first time this season. The Crimson and Grey defeated their rivals last week at the Sacred Heart Bowl for the Cure by a 946-777 margin.

Day Two – Saturday

The Ravens improved five spots in the standings on Saturday due the team knocking down 230 more pins than the first day of competition.

The Crimson and Grey started off the day strong with a 938-893 victory over no. 20 nationally ranked St. Francis (N.Y.) which was their second win of the season against them. Freshman Krysta Peirce (Lenox, Mich.) tallied the high score for the Ravens and teammate Jessica Davies bowled a 197. Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) racked up a 194 and Jessica Marcure rolled a 183.

Versus Lincoln Memorial, Kelly led the way at 214 and was joined by Marcure with a 210 score. Freshman Katey Comstock (Hartland, Vt.) racked up a 194 and Davies threw a 190 in the 961-804 Raven victory.

In the final win of the day (900-865) over no. 15 nationally-ranked Saint Francis (Pa.), Davies was the team leader with a 191 showing.

Marcure performed well in both losses as the junior rolled a 201 in the setback versus Youngstown State (925-969) and a 202 against no. 6 nationally-ranked Sam Houston State (929, 1,007). Davies recorded the highest single score of the afternoon with a 216 in the duel with Sam Houston State. Sophomore Meggin Brooks (Rotterdam, N.Y.) bowled a 201 in the Raven loss.

Day Three – Sunday

On the third day of bowling, the Ravens started off the morning with a 971-961 win over Valparaiso. The next two matches were best of seven contests. The team dropped the first match of the best of seven against Wisconsin-Whitewater 4-2, but the Crimson and Grey chalked up two scores over 200 in the setback. Next, the Ravens competed versus St. Francis (Pa.) and fell 4-2 to end their tournament run.

The Crimson and Grey will return to action on November 18th and 19th at the Hawk Classic in Millsboro, Del.
