Women's Bowling Finishes Third at the Sacred Heart Bowl

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (October 22, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce women's bowling team traveled to Sacred Heart University on Saturday to compete at the Sacred Heart Bowl for the Cure at the Wallingford Bowl.

The Ravens went 3-2 on the day to improve to 10-4 on the young campaign and finished third out of six teams. The Crimson and Grey earned victories against no. 17 nationally-ranked Kutztown (946-777), Molloy (914-751) and a narrow one point win against Felician (858-857) in their final match of the day.

FPU's setbacks were to the no. 14 nationally-rank host Sacred Heart (900-965) and to Caldwell (870-874). The Ravens defeated Caldwell last weekend (963-743) at the KU Fall Bud Whitman Memorial.

In the loss to #14 Sacred Heart Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) scored a team-high 222 in the match while teammate Alexa Asta (Jackson, N.J.) dropped a 199. Against #17 Kutztown, Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) led the way with a 207 and Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.) added a 202 score.

Freshman Krysta Peirce (Lenox, Mich.) knocked down 200 pins in the loss to Caldwell. Jessica Marcure (Attleboro, Mass.) and Colleen Kelly were the high scorers versus Molloy as they bowled 211 and 197 respectively. The team finished the day versus Felician and earned a one point win with Peirce bowling the high of 202.

Kelly was also listed as the no. 7 seed in the singles tournament. She was the only Raven bowler to advance during singles play after a bye. Kelly defeated Kristin Zimmerman of host Sacred Heart 214-186. Kelly advanced to the quarterfinals and lost by a 175-159 margin.

The Ravens return to action next weekend when they travel to the NJ Jamboree at the Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park, N.J.
