Bowling competes in first day of FDU New Jersey Jamboree

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (October 31, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce bowling team faced a tough day on the lanes at the FDU New Jersey Jamboree hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University. The Ravens came out of the day 0-5 after losing in some tough matchups.

The Ravens first faced off against Saint Francis (Pa.), where they were edged out 925-893. The Ravens top performance came from freshman Brittany Hovan (Paramus, N.J.) who ended up the only one over 200 with a 205. Freshman Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.) had the second highest score for the Ravens with a 192.

Franklin Pierce's second match would come against Kutztown University, and the Ravens would go on to lose 920-898. Freshman Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) led the Ravens in the match with a score of 209, while junior Rebekah Varin (West Warwick, R.I.) bowled the second top score of the match with a 194. Hovan would back up her first match mastery with another solid 192 in the second match.

In the Ravens third match, they squared off against Maryland Eastern Shore, and once again dropped the match by a score of 968-822. Vucak would once again put on a strong performance by rolling the Ravens top score of 183. Davies and Varin would follow suit with scores of 175 and 171 to back up the Ravens effort.

The fourth match saw the Ravens head to head with Saint Francis (N.Y.), and their prayers would not be answered once again as they were defeated 1016-781. Varin would take the top score of the match tossing a 194.

The Ravens final match of the day would see them face off against host Fairleigh Dickinson, and the Ravens would be edged out again 974-847. Davies would once again lead the Ravens with a score of 197, while Varin backed her up with a 170.

The Ravens return to the alley tomorrow for day two of the tournament, where they will play six total matches throughout the day.
