Desjardins strong, Women’s Bowling goes 0-4 at Pioneer Invitational

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (October 25, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce women's bowling team came out to play on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Sacred Heart University, but saw learning results finishing the day at 0-4. The one day event shot the Ravens into some final preparation matches before their big three-day tournament next weekend at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The Ravens first faced off against Sacred Heart, and took on a loss by a score of 958-811. The Ravens then came out and recorded a loss against St. Francis by a final score of 948-844. Freshman Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.) finished with a 207, which topped all Ravens on the match. In the third game, the Ravens dropped another match, as they squared off against Northeast-10 rival Adelphi. Freshman Curran Desjardins (Ashcutnet, Mass.) was the big match for the Ravens, as shot a 211. Lastly, the Ravens grabbed a final loss on the day in the position round against Sacred Heart, as junior Rebakah Varin (West Warwick, R.I.) shot a 201 to lead the Ravens.

After the round robin rounds, it became an individual tournament, which sent Desjardins and Varin, and freshman Kaitlyn Poirier (Winchester, N.H.) into the final rounds. Varin would shoot a 192, Poirier a 213 to make it to the final round to join Desjardins who received a bye.

Poirier was then knocked out of the tournament by Rebecca Gotternbarn from Adelphi 199-177. Varin would be knocked out by a score of 204-168.

Desjardins would win her first match to move onto the top eight by a final of 237-172. However, Desjardins would fall to the number one seed of the tournament by a final of 237-172.

The Ravens next hit the lanes next week for three days for the FDU New Jersey Jamboree held at Fairleigh Dickinson University from Friday, October 31 – Sunday, November 2.
