Women's Basketball: Ravens Take Down No. 14 Ranked Bentley Falcons, 60-57

RINDGE, NH (2/21/2024) - The Franklin Pierce Women's Basketball team stunned the No. 14 Ranked Falcons of Bentley University 60-57 Wednesday night, extending their winning streak to five in a row. 

Score: Franklin Pierce 60, Bentley 57.  
Records: Franklin Pierce 16-9 (11-9 NE10), Bentley 21-5 (16-4 NE10) 
Location: The Fieldhouse, Franklin Pierce University, Rindge, NH. 
Date: Wednesday, February 21st, 2024. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Ravens started the game chasing the Falcons who were off to the races in the 1st quarter, outscoring the Ravens 20-10 in the first ten minutes of action. Falcons senior guard Brooke Obar led the team with 6 points in the first quarter, spearheading a 13-4 run halfway through the opening quarter.  
  • The second quarter was tighter than the first, with the Ravens scoring 17 points. Senior forward Colette Mulderig (Scranton, PA) led the Ravens with 8 points in the 2nd quarter alone. Despite this, Bentley maintained their lead and entered halftime ahead 40-27.  
  • The Ravens turned up the heat to start the third quarter, cutting into the Falcons lead with 15 points to Bentley's 6. Senior guard Anna Badosa Soler (Girona, Spain) notched 8 points in the quarter leading the team to start the second half. The Ravens defense also came up strong with 4 blocks, two by Mulderig and one from both sophomore guards Kenzie Sirowich (Seymour, CT) and Leana Heitmann (Syracuse, NY).  
  • The final ten minutes were a back-and-forth affair with both teams trading leads. Yet, the Ravens took control in the final two minutes thanks to Soler who hit three free throws, giving the Ravens 60 points to the Falcons 57.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • The field goal percentage race was relatively even with the Falcons making 37% of their shots and the Ravens making 36% of theirs. The Falcons, however, took and made more shots than the Ravens, making 22 of 58 shots.  
  • The Falcons had a better day from beyond the arc, making 7 of 20 three-point shots (35%) while the Ravens made 3 of 14 three-pointers (21%) 
  • The Ravens outrebounded the Falcons, grabbing 36 compared to Bentley's 30.  
  • The Falcons also had more turnovers than the Ravens, giving the ball away 16 times to the Ravens 15.  

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens will play their final home game of the regular season this Saturday, February 24th against Southern Connecticut State. This Senior Day game will happen once again at the Fieldhouse. Tip-off is at 1:30 pm EST.
