Women's Basketball: Four in a Row; Ravens Grab Upset Victory Over Assumption, 80-71

WORCESTER, M.A (2/17/2024) -- The Franklin Pierce women's basketball team won its fourth straight game Saturday afternoon in an upset victory over the Assumption Greyhounds, 80-71.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Ravens entered the game as the underdog, as Assumption has maintained a spot at the top of the NE10 standings all season. Taking on Greyhounds and their second place footing in the conference, the Ravens came out swinging in the first quarter and closed out the first ten minutes with a 22-16 lead.  
•  Heading into the second the Greyhounds bit back and outscored Franklin Pierce 15-11. Though the game was far from over, Franklin pierce held a 33-31 lead at the end of the half, marking the first time this season that the Greyhounds went into halftime trailing their opponent.
• In the second half, it was a back-and-forth affair once again but the Ravens held onto a three-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. During the final ten minutes, the Ravens outscored the Greyhounds 27-21, and held on to win 80-71.
• For the Ravens, the win marked the programs fourth in a row. As for the Greyhounds, the loss broke a 12 game winning streak.
• Three Franklin Pierce players finished the game with double digits. Senior guard Anna Badosa Soler (Girona, Spain) had 24 points, nine assists, and six steals. She played 38 minutes and shot 7 for 15 from the field and 9 for 11 from the charity stripe. Senior forward Colette Mulderig (Scranton, PA) had 21 points and seven rebounds. She shot 10 for 15 from the field. Sophomore guard Leana Heitmann (Syracuse, NY) had 14 points and shot 5 for 7 from the field. She was 4 for 5 from beyond the arc.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
• Franklin Pierce shot 45% from the field (29 for 65). Assumption shot 52% from the field (26 for 50)
• Franklin Pierce shot 39% from behind the arc (7 for 18). Assumption shot 36% from behind the arc (5 for 17).
• Franklin Pierce shot 83% from the free throw line (15 for 18). Assumption shot 78% from the free-throw line (14 for 18).
• The Ravens had 21 fast break points and 25 points off turnovers.
• Franklin Pierce had 38 rebounds.

• The Franklin Pierce Ravens return to The Fieldhouse in Rindge, New Hampshire, on Wednesday, February 21, to take on the Bentley Falcons for the final time this season, with tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
