Women's Basketball: Soler Leads Ravens With 22 Points in Win Over Pace, 58-48

PLEASANTVILLE, NY (2/10/2024) – The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team grabbed its second consecutive win Saturday in a 58-48 victory over the Pace University Setters. Sparring for a spot in the Northeast-10 playoffs, Saturday's performance was a big one as the Ravens sit seventh in the current NE10 standings, one spot below Pace at sixth.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens put together a complete game on Saturday afternoon as the offense put up at least 12 points each quarter. The team set the tone in the first quarter scoring a game high 18 points which towered over the Setters who only tallied 7.
  • In the second quarter, the Setters' offense came back to life and they doubled their offensive output with 14 points and even outscored the Ravens by two points but heading into the half, Franklin Pierce held the 30-21 lead.
  • After halftime, the Ravens were able to win the third quarter outscoring the Setters 13-10 and secure some breathing room as they went to the final quarter with a 43-31 lead.
  • Both teams traded buckets in the fourth and the Setters hit a team high 17 points but the Ravens answered with 15 of their own. Holding off the Setters, the Ravens closed out the game with a 58-48 victory.
  • Offensively, Franklin Pierce Senior guard Anna Badosa Soler (Girona, Spain) led the Ravens with 22 points, just one point shy of tying her career high points per game total (23 points vs Holy Family on 11/11/23). Soler went 7-for-10 from the field, 2-for-2 from behind the arc, and 6-for-8 at the free throw line. Under the net, Soler also grabbed six rebounds including five in the defensive end.
  • Collete Mulderig (Scranton, Pa.) played a key role after she led the team with eight rebounds, three blocks and nine points.
  • Gisela Vazquez Segura (Igualada, Spain) and Leana Heitmann (Syracuse, NY) chipped in double digits with ten and eleven points respectively.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Though the Ravens were outshot form the field, Franklin Pierce hit 41% (21-51) of their opportunities compared to Pace's 34.5% (19-55).
  • Both teams struggled from behind the three-point arc as the Ravens shot 27.3% (3-11),
    close behind the Setters' 28.6% (4-14).
  • The Ravens went to the free throw line 17 times Saturday and hit 13 of those shots (76.5%). The setters grabbed six of their ten (60%) shots at the charity stripe.
  • Both teams went after rebounds and tallied an even 31 each.
  • Turnovers were one of the few stats that stuck out following Saturday's game as the Setters turned it over 22 times compared to the Ravens' 16. Capitalizing on the opportunities, the Ravens grabbed 15 of their points off turnovers.

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: Franklin Pierce women's basketball will look to extend their winning streak to three on Tuesday, Febrauary 12 at home against Adelphi. Tip off is set for 5:30 PM.
