Women's Basketball: Ravens Offense Explodes Against Saint Anselm, Cruising 71-58

RINDGE, N.H. (2/7/2024) – The Franklin Pierce women's basketball team put together a dominant offensive performance on Wednesday night, defeating their inter-state rival Saint Anselm 71-58.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Both teams traded baskets early in the first quarter. Sophomore guard Leana Heitmann (Syracuse, NY) splashed a three-pointer to tie the score 5-5. Senior forward Colette Mulderig (Scranton, Pa.) followed that up with a pair of jumpers to help the Ravens pull ahead 9-7. Heitmann continued to her hot shooting with another 3-pointer to stretch the Ravens lead to 12-7. Senior forward Gisela Vazquez Segura (Igualada, Spain) capped off a 9-4 run with a layup, forcing a Hawks timeout. In the final seconds, Sophomore forward Laia Llorente (Madrid, Spain) converted a layup to give the Ravens a 16-12 lead to close out the first quarter.
  • The Ravens continued their success in the second quarter, outscoring the Hawks 16-8. Leana Heitmann dominated the quarter with 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. The Ravens would take a 32-20 lead into halftime. 
  • Sophomore guard Kenzie Sirowich (Seymour, Conn.) made consecutive layups to begin the third quarter for the Ravens to give them the 36-20 lead. Later, a double technical foul on the Hawks head coach would send Senior guard Anna Badosa (Girona, Spain) to the free-throw line, who converted all four shots and give the Ravens a commanding 42-27 lead. Freshman forward LyNeta Brand (West Haven, Conn.) came off the bench and drilled a jumper, but it was met by a 3-pointer from Marta Gomez Pons of the Hawks, making it a 44-30 Ravens lead. Colette Mulderig made consecutive shots to put the Ravens up by 17, taking a 50-33 lead. Anna Badosa capped off the frame with a triple to put the Ravens up 56-39. Alexa Quirolo finished with a layup for the Hawks as they trailed 56-41 heading into the 4th quarter. 
  • Kenzie Sirowich and Anna Badosa each added 6 more points in the 4th quarter. The Ravens would be outscored 17-14 by the Hawks but were in control of the game and cruised to a 12-point victory, 71-58.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • Leana Heitmann led the team with 18 points, shooting an impressive 6-9 from the field and 4-6 from 3-point range. 
  • 3 other Ravens scored in double figures. Kenzie Sirowich and Anna Badosa each scored 12 points and Colette Mulderig added 10 points.  
  • The Ravens shot 37.9% from the field (22 for 58) and 31.3% from 3-point range (5 for 16).  

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS:  The Ravens travel to Pleasantville, NY to take on the Pace Setters in a Northeast-10 conference matchup on Saturday (2/10) with tip-off at 1:30 p.m.
