Women's Basketball: Ravens Fall to Yellow Jackets, 76-57

SPRINGFIELD, M.A (2/3/2024) – The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team fell to the Yellow Jackets of American International on Saturday afternoon, 76-57. Scoring between the two teams was neck and neck for three of the four quarter, but a slow start for the Ravens in the first ultimately put them in a deficit that they failed to crawl out of.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• AIC outscored Franklin Pierce 23-11 in the first quarter. AIC Senior guard Briana Lee led the way with six points, shooting 3 for 5 from the field and grabbing three rebounds.
• In the second quarter, both teams traded baskets. The Ravens cut the Yellow Jackets lead to nine. AIC had a 41-32 lead over Franklin Pierce heading into halftime. 
• The Yellow Jackets pulled away in the second half as they outscored the Ravens 35-25. AIC won 76-57 and swept the season series against Franklin Pierce. 
• Two Franklin Pierce players scored in double figures. Senior transfer guard Janessa Gonzalez (Meriden, CT) played 25 minutes off the bench and scored 12 points. She shot 5 for 13 from the field. Senior forward Colette Mulderig (Scranton, PA) played 29 minutes off the bench and scored 17 points. She shot 8 for 17 from the field. 
• Sophomore guard Kenzie Sirowich (Seymour, CT) had 10 rebounds and continued her hot streak at the free throw line after she went 4 for 4.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS
• Franklin Pierce shot 34% from the field (22 for 65). AIC shot 56% from the field (31 for 55)
• Franklin Pierce shot 14% from behind the arc (3 for 21). AIC shot 39% from behind the arc (7 for 18).
• Franklin Pierce shot 67% from the free throw line (10 for 15). AIC shot 64% from the free-throw line (7 for 11).

 NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS
• The Franklin Pierce Ravens return home to The Fieldhouse in Rindge, New Hampshire, on Wednesday, February 7, as they take on the St. Anselm Hawks for the final time this season. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
