Women's Basketball: Ravens Suffer Third Straight Loss After Falling 58-38 to SCSU

NEW HAVEN, CONN. (1/6/2024) – Franklin Pierce women's basketball dropped its third consecutive loss on Saturday afternoon to Southern Connecticut State University, 58-38.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The combination of strong defense from the Owls, team turnovers, and missed shots from the field landed the Ravens their lowest final score of the season Saturday afternoon. In three of the four quarter, the Ravens failed to break the 10-point mark.
  • Raven sophomore guard Leana Heitmann (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored a team high 10 points through for quarters and was the only Raven player to reach double digits.
  • During the first quarter, the Owls came out hot grabbing 18 points compared to the Ravens who only tallied six.
  •  The second quarter was the Ravens' best after netting 18, but heading into halftime the team trailed 38-24.
  • During the second half, SCSU pressed forward and outscored the Ravens 12-8 and then 8-6 through the final two quarters and closed out the game, 58-38.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Owls offense generated more offensive opportunities during the game which ultimately led to their victory. From the field, SCSU went 21-62 (33.9%) where the Ravens went 13-50 (26%). The Ravens did slightly better from the 3-point arc after the team went 6-15 (26%) compared to the Owls who went 8-23 (34.8%).
  • Turnovers tipped heavily towards the Ravens who tallied 22 compared to the Owls' 14.

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: Franklin Pierce women's basketball will look to get back in the win column this week as the team kicks off a streak of home games starting with Saint Michael's College on Wednesday, January 24th at 5:30 PM.
