Deguire Drops First Ever Double-Double as Le Moyne Earns Comeback Win

RINDGE, N.H. (January 28, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University senior forward Mikayla Deguire (Watervilet, N.Y.) tallied a career-high 23 points as the Ravens dropped a Northeast-10 Conference contest, 64-56 to Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon in The Fieldhouse. The win improved the Dolphins to 11-9 overall and evened their NE10 mark to 7-7 and the loss was the 17th of the year for the Crimson and Grey.

Deguire drained 10-of-16 (62.5%) from the floor as she did most of her damage down low in the post. She also snagged a personal and game-best 10 rebounds en route to her first career double-double. Exactly half of Deguires' 10 rebounds came on the offensive end.

Teammate Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.) chipped in nine points, a game-high six assists and came down with three boards. Cameryn Wilson (Newport News, Va.) racked up seven points and six rebounds while Jemma Thacker (Nairne, South Australia) grabbed nine caroms.

Four of five starters notched double digit points for the guests as Joanna Dobrovosky led the way with a team-high 14 markers. The junior forward came down with seven rebounds, blocked three shots and dished out three helpers. McKayka Roberts added 13 points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists while Nicole Riddick collected eight boards.

Franklin Pierce won the battle on the boards by outrebounding their counterparts 44 to 35, but the guests doubled up the Ravens at the charity stripe (18-of-22, 81.8%).

Deguire opened up the scoring in the contest by taking a feed from Middleton and pounding the rock down low off the window and in. With the game tied at four all, the Dolphins used a 9-2 run capped off by a Dobrovosky fast break lay-in to put Le Moyne ahead 13-6.

Two minutes later, the Ravens hit back to back treys as Thacker buried a three from the top of the point and on the next Raven possession, Wilson set her feet, fired and drained the shot from the wing to cut the lead to one 13-12. The 9-0 Raven run continued as Middleton drove coast to coast on a fast break for the hoop and harm which put the FPU ahead 15-13.

With four seconds left, Corrine Poitevien found Courtney Webster cutting along the baseline for an uncontested layup which knotted the score at 15 all after the first.

The second quarter remained scoreless through the first three minutes until Dobrovosky knocked down two freebies to push the Dolphins back ahead. Dana Campbell (Merrick, N.Y.) answered by receiving a cross court pass from Thacker then draining a shot from three-point land to push the Ravens back ahead by one.

Middleton and Deguire accounted for the Ravens' final 10 points of the period as Pierce built the lead up to a game high five twice as they led 28-23 at the intermission.

The guests opened the second half with five consecutive points to knot the score for a fifth time. Deguire briefly put her team back in front with a layup on the next possession.

A 10-2 Dolphin scoring binge put them back up by six, 38-32 after Ellie Leszyk manufactured an and1. Franklin Pierce outscored Le Moyne 14-6 over the final 5:38 of the third as they turned a six point hole into a two point lead thanks to Deguire pouring in a three-pointer from the left corner as horn sounded signaling the end of the third. The Ravens led 46-44 after three.

Deguire scored half of the Ravens 18 points in the third quarter and nine of her game total of 23 came in the frame on a 4-of-6 (66.7%) shooting performance.

The Ravens struggled from the field in the final 10 minutes as they only converted 1-of-12 (8.3%) from the hardwood, however they were perfect from the free throw line (8-of-8, 100%).

Le Moyne scored the first eight points of the fourth with Roberts knocking in five of those points, two from the charity stripe and three from a long range connection to put her squad ahead by six, 52-46. The Ravens would cut the deficit to four, four times over the final minutes of the game, but couldn't get over the hump as they fell by eight.

The Ravens head out on the road for a conference showdown with Saint Anselm on Wednesday, February 1st with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m.
