Wilson Drops Career-High 18 Points, Ravens End Non-Conference Slate Versus Bears

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (December 30, 2016) – Freshman guard Cameryn Wilson (Newport News, Va.) racked up a career-high 18 points to go along with a personal best seven rebounds as the Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team wrapped up their non-conference slate of games with a 74-56 setback to Bloomfield College on Friday afternoon in the Bloomfield Gym.

With the win, the Bears improve to 7-4 on the season and the loss was the Crimson and Grey's 10th of the year.

Wilson handed out three assists which was her second largest single game total of the season. The newcomer converted 6-of-11 (54.5%) from the floor and 5-of-5 (100%) from the charity stripe.

Dana Campbell (Merrick, N.Y.) led all Raven starters in points with 10 while Jemma Thacker (Nairne, South Australia) tallied nine points and six boards. Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.) matched Thacker's scoring output and dished out a game-best six assists.

Three Bloomfield starters scored in double-digits as Tianna Smith paved the way with a game-high 19 points. Smith added seven caroms, four assists and four steals to her stat line. The Bears were constantly intercepting passes as they recorded 14 steals while the Ravens had just one theft.

The hosts opened up the scoring using two free throws before FPU rattled off seven straight points to take a 7-2 lead thanks to an Alison Palma (Stamford, Conn.) jumper. Five in a row by the Bears brought the score to seven all and both squads swapped baskets until the quarters end as FPU led by one, 19-18.

Bloomfield outscored Franklin Pierce 21-8 in the second stanza as they did most of their damage in the beginning of the frame using a 12-2 run to take a 10 point, 31-21 lead. Mikayla Deguire (Watervilet, N.Y.) brought her teams deficit to single figures, 36-27 with 15 seconds on the clock, but Smith drained a trey at the buzzer to put her team back up 12, 39-27 at halftime.

In the third, the teams traded points just like the first quarter as Wilson buried a three-ball from Middleton at the end of the quarter that brought the Bears lead to a manageable 12 points.

A Middleton connection from deep put her squad back down 12, but two consecutive threes from Smith and Jahniece Jaffe closed the contest as the Bears won 74-56.

The Ravens return to the hardwood on Wednesday, January 4th when they open the new calendar year with a conference contest at Adelphi with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m.
