Women's Basketball Falls to Assumption 76-56

RINDGE, NH (January 3, 2015)-  Two Ravens were in double digits as the Franklin Pierce women's basketball team fell 76-56 to Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference play Saturday afternoon at the Fieldhouse. This marks the first loss for the team on their home court.

With the loss, the Ravens fall 4-2 in Conference play, with 7-3 as their overall record, Assumption advances to 5-2 in Conference play with an overall record of 10-2.

Although Assumption was the first to score, the Ravens took the lead 4-2 within the first two minutes with a jumper by freshman Jemma Thacker (Aldgate, Australia) and a layup by junior Dyamond Gardner (Cambridge, Mass.). For the next four minutes the Ravens and Greyhounds would battle basket for basket with Assumption taking the lead by 13:42 in the first half  with a three pointer by junior Kelly Conley, 13-10.

The Ravens would briefly regain the lead, 22-20, with 5:54 left to play in the first half with a layup by sophomore Allison Palma (Stamford, Conn.); this is the last time Franklin Pierce would have the lead. Sophomore Jaclyn Story's layup would be the first basket for the Greyhounds since 10-25 tying the game up 22-22 seconds later.

The teams would head to the locker room with the Greyhounds leading 40-30.

Assumption led by 22 with 11:54 left to play, by the Ravens would start slowly chipping away the lead bringing the game within 11 points by 5:13, 65-54. Junior Natalie Bastian (Branford, Conn.) would score with 3:31 to play bringing the game within 13. The Greyhounds would take the 76-56 victory.

Senior Caitlin Ackerman would post 21 points with nine rebounds and four assists, followed by junior Kelly Conley with 16 points,  sophomore Kelly Carey with 12 points, and Jaclyn Storey with 11 points.

Graduate student Jessica Hurd (Kegworth, England) had 10 points and eight rebounds, followed by Natalie Bastian with 10 points and two assists.

The Ravens return to their home court Wednesday, January 7th to host American International College (AIC) in Northeast-10 Conference play at 5:30pm in the Fieldhouse.
