RINDGE, N.H. (June 24, 2010) – The NCAA this week recognized Franklin Pierce University as the Northeast-10 Conference winner for the Division II Community Engagement Award. The announcement was made on Tuesday at the Division II Chancellors and Presidents Summit in Indianapolis.

It marked the second time in the 2009-10 athletic year that Franklin Pierce was recognized by the NCAA, as the University won the Northeast-10’s Top Game Environment Award back in January in Atlanta.

The community engagement event that earned the recognition for Franklin Pierce came back in January at the Rocky the Raven Kids’ Day, which was held in conjunction with a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader in The Fieldhouse. Local children and their families were treated to a day of exciting basketball action, while enjoying games, giveaways and meeting their favorite Ravens basketball players. The event was such a huge success that many of the families returned to The Fieldhouse throughout January, February and March to cheer on the women’s basketball team as it continued its march to the Northeast-10 and NCAA East Regional championships.

Due to the success of last year’s kids’ day, the Franklin Pierce Athletics Department will host two this upcoming season, including one on Sunday, Sept. 26 and another one on Jan. 22. The September event will center around a men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. in Sodexo Field. Local police and fire authorities are expected to take part in the event and do safety presentations. The January event will take place during a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader.
